It blows my mind how many people are not watching Fringe. For example, I showed a clip of it in my English class because a scene in the pilot really connected to a scene in A Tale of Two Cities. Their response? "Sir, is this, like, a TV show?"

The timing is right. My kid LOVES The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.

I thought it looked like silver too... perhaps he hunts werewolves on the side?

That's fantastic.

I don't always dislike her, but she's not the most friendly person at times. Which is fine. Ultimately she wants to do what is good. I just don't know if I'd get along with her, especially given that she doesn't get along with most people.

Oh, and I meant to point out that - while it will certainly change the tone without having her thoughts available at every moment - I think there is certainly the opportunity for a bit more subtlety. I wasn't always a fan of seeing a cool connection and then having her think it immediately afterwards. I know, I

I'm actually really interested in seeing if the film will make her more likable. Let's be honest, in the books she is... not so much. Not that I'm hoping she's more likable, but it'll be interesting to see how she's really portrayed in the film.

Hmm. It's nice seeing these clips, and it'll be nice to see the OTHER half of the movie when it hits theatres.

Thanks so much for your insight, ls1z28chris. When looking at this and other dystopian texts with my students I talk a lot with them about oppression, human rights, universal truths, and other themes (I admit I could do a better job addressing some of the war issues).

Hm. I appreciate the variety in responses I'm getting. I'm going to go ahead to do a tweet review on the final book for my students, but my expectations won't be all that high. Still, kids are reading. That's half the battle in my experience. At least when I go to teach the Fahrenheit or 1984 they'll have some

Nuts. I don't mean to hate, and I recognize that I'm not the target audience, but I was hoping for more. Maybe it'll surprise me. Looking forward to the movie, though.

Alright, here's the deal. I just read the first two novels this week and I'm reading the third one tonight. I'm not sure at all how I feel about them at this point, but I'm an English teacher and I told my book club students that I'd read all the books and tweet review them (I think I mentioned this here right after

I just read the second book tonight for the first time and did a TWEET REVIEW, and this was what I wrote when Cinna got beat down:

I have to agree that Jedi is supreme... it was some of Hayden Christensen's best work!

So... how long before we find out that he's phasing between being "over here" and "over there" in the Fringe universe(s)?

I started this response three times... I'm a big fan of dystopian lit too, but (at least in the first book, which is the only one I read) the focus is more on the action than the social commentary, and when there is some good commentary it's overly explicit (for example, I was reading and I made a connection and

+1

Yeah - actually, my number one question going into the movie is how the feel is going to change because of the narration differences.

I actually just read the book for the first time last night and tweeted all of my thoughts about it. I dunno, it's not exactly what I pictured, but I like it. Need to see a lot more first.
