Couldn’t agree more! 18 months is the number I would call out as well, considered just saying it in my orignal comment but I wanted to give Tesla some credit. You **can** go faster than 18 if you really want to, and they are smaller so maybe more nimble in that respect.

You are right, hopefully they don’t run out of money before they can build enough units to be profitable. Car manufacturing has huge fixed costs, those costs need to be distributed by units to be profitable.

Some notes from an industrial engineer in the automotive industry:

I sometimes worry that Tesla adds complexity just for the sake of doing it. Sure vents aren’t the most attractive feature on a car but no one gets in a car and thinks “damn if only these vents weren’t here”.

The best part is that GM isn’t even making money on the car. Electric vehicles with such relative low volume are very very expensive to produce. The Bolt costs GM more to make than a Silverado.
