It would help if the Inhumans weren’t just... evil. Like really, the comics tries to write them as the good guys, but they’re just categorically evil. They run a monarchy that exposes populations to terrigen gasses against their will, a gas that’s been proven toxic to mutants, and not all Inhumans come out okay.

It’s a dungeon brawler with the Marvel license.

Question: have you played a M:UA game before?

Have ANY X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance games had interesting puzzles or interesting levels? They’ve ALL been brawlers where 85% of the game is enjoying the power-trip and 15% is unlocking new characters.  I don’t understand what makes this one worse to you in some way?

Mild Take: but The Inhumans have never been interesting by themselves, their entire concept has never really worked well enough for a stand-alone anything, and Marvel/The MCU pushing them forward because they had sold the rights to the X-Men and the word “Mutant” is arguably the worst thing to happen to the X-Men

Can we be honest about this game? It’s not very good. There really aren’t any interesting puzzles or interesting levels. If this game didn’t have the Marvel license it would have been crucified for even daring to exist. But it has Iron Man and Spider Gwen so we collectively give it a pass.

whelp. Guess I’m buying Soul Calibur 6.

It’s a really fantastic game. Really really fantastic.

Kirk, this is easily the best game review I’ve ever read, but also the best writing of any kind that I’ve read on this website. I enjoyed your creative narrative prose over the the technical trappings of FPS and otherdata.”

I don’t think it’s being a ‘copyright apologist’ to actually understand how copyright law works. The restored mod for KOTOR 2, or mods in general, don’t fundamentally change the game. They add stuff or augment things or alter various smaller processes, but they don’t change the game in its entirety. They’re still

They can demand whatever they want. Doesn’t mean it would hold up in court. As long as they take down the obviously infringing material, it’s really not going to be worth Disney’s time to go after them for code that’s not infringing (I suppose they may have used code from disassembled and decompiled binaries, which

That tactic seems like it greatly increases the chances of having an entirely ruinous lawsuit instead of a stern cease and desist letter.

The problem with that logic is that it follows Pandora’s Box logic; once you let one through, you’ve set a precedent that anyone can. And if you fight them, they’ll cite this one case where you allowed it and will do everything in their power to get their thing. It’s the same reason Nintendo nixes EVERYTHING. Whether

The engine thing has nothing to do with the issue, the person you replied to has no clue how copyright actually works. The issue is simply that Poem Studies was using copyrighted Star Wars characters/ships/etc. without permission to do so. They could have been doing the project in the same engine and it would have

Yeah. I mean, Lucas didn’t go out and copy Flash Gordon etc verbatim. He sat his ass down and used it as inspiration to create his own stuff. Unless they land a gig at Lucasfilm, they should do the same and use the IP as inspiration to do their own thing. Earn some originality respect, instead of regurgitating someone

To everybody who says “it was just a mod”: No, it was not.
A mod would just add content, but still run in the original engine, using the original game to transport its content.
As soon as they changed the engine, they lost all legal grounds to stand on.
Lucasfilm HAD to write that C&D-letter, because otherwise Lucasfilm

Copyright or not, I don’t see how this mod was hurting anyone

It’s very -very- hard to build teams, fan attention and even donations if you are running projects underground. Also the ‘surprise motherfuckers, here it is!’ tactics would likely result in the companies who own these IP’s to get even more aggressive at stamping out these projects to the point where it could very well

I miss this style so much :(

Have you ever seen an anime?
