I think I speak for all owners of a functional pair of eyes when I say I wish you guys would stop showing us Bobby Kotick’s horrible face. It is without exaggeration an affront to all that is natural and good. He’s a shit person too, but crap is he an ugly basterd.

Microsoft literally described Starfield as one of the most important RPGs ever made, and then it barely even made the list of nominees.

That’s part of the issue. The other issue is that there’s just nothing interesting to find. BGS made a handful of unique POIs, then copied and pasted them across thousands of planets. Once you realize this, the appeal of exploration goes out the window because you know you’re just going to “discover” things you’ve

These award shows are marketing shows and most indie games have relatively little marketing compared to AAA games. If you’re looking for obscure gems to gain the recognition they deserve, The Game Awards isn’t going to provide that.

Welcome to The Game Awards - just like the Oscars, companies pay a little for a ‘for your consideration campaign’ and they get on the ballot.

Maybe? But I feel like they set themselves up for it. Microsoft literally described Starfield as one of the most important RPGs ever made, and then it barely even made the list of nominees. I think if they’re going to oversell it like that it’s fair to call them out.

Seems awfully meanspirited to go out of your way to call out one particular game in an already stacked year.

My pre-emptive condolences to whichever VA inevitably gets bullied off Twitter after being announced as the replacement.

Horny is what makes the world go.

Don’t act like you never used Sgt Jamjars’ blessed zoomed-in first person view to stare at Humba Wumba’s giant jubba jubbas

Fuck u/spez

I know how you feel when it comes to seeing or being asked to play certain games.

Yep. I use to work at Midway Home Entertainment in San Diego before it went bankrupt. Watching those QA guys work, completely ruined the idea of “playing games as job”.

but keep in mind, for a union to work they need political backing so they can tell execs to fuck off. MAGA hats fetishize the 1950s as a time in which “America was great;” they forget that a big reason why it was that way—for at least some of the population—was due to the insanely strong power Unions could wield at

This is what happens when we continually attack Unions and strip the workforce of its protections that had been so prevalent decades ago. Without collective bargaining a company is going to exploit the worker as much as they can and let you burn out.

As a QA Professional of 10 years all I can say is FUCKING UNIONIZE!

One thing an organised union can do is negotiate fair hours. The hours mentioned above are ludicrous. It should be fairly common knowledge by now that long hours actually decrease productivity, here’s a fairly common study that stands up to scrutiny:

From Merriam-Webster:

Yeah, the worst department at the worst developer is bound to be a hellhole.

In my experience, game development QA departments are all one layer of hell or another.
