Cultural appropriation is racist and glad to see it is being called out now. White people have gotten away with it for far too long. When minorities can be included in the the joys of not being gunned down by police and growing up in communities that offer education, jobs, police protection, etc... then maybe white

Jezebel is in no small part responsible for the idea that everybody who can feel victimized should feel victimized, just for the lulz.

Practicing yoga under some one who is not from the culture is not exchange. In order for it to be exchange some one from the culture must be involved. Yoga is a textbook example of appropriation. It was taken, diluted, and rebranded. Yoga is a spiritual practice and has a lot more meaning than stretches and poses. I

Ooo I like this fight. Overly corrective social justice vs. Crunchy yoga white people. Both will attempt to take the moral high ground, and everyone will act as if their opinion is better than everyone else's.

Honestly, I don’t think they are that self-aware. I really think they think they are being saviors to non-European cultures. That they are the only enlightened ones in a sea of “cultural appropriating bigots.”

I have just crossed that line where Millennials now make 0% sense to me. Yesterday, it was around 10-15%, so things were still hanging on, but.... now this. *fwee* Y’all are fuckin batshit.

I feel like every Jezebel commenter who yells about cultural appropriation has a limited degree of culpability here.

This is the logical and easily predicted end of the SJWs’ obsession with cultural appropriation.

If you look close enough at the sort of people who conflate any sort of cultural exchange with appropriation and oppression (ie, white people aren’t allowed to do yoga, eat Thai food, or convert to Buddhism under any circumstances,) you frequently get a funny feeling that the real intention behind it has less to do

There’s a lot of people who need the adrenalin rush of standing up against anything and everything that is fashionably “problematic”.

Pretty much. There are people who have such a hard-on for calling out “cultural appropriation” (which is a real thing) that they’ll basically call any sharing of different cultural ideas “appropriation”.

As a descendant of colonizers who lives in the colony (California in this case), I know I should not appropriate native foodways. I also shouldn’t appropriate from other cultures. So I guess my only recourse is to research the foods of my exact ancestors in their places and eat those foods?

Like we’re heading to a type of segregation - everybody stays in their own little box and never looks at anything else.

I hope they take down belly-dancing next!

Did Kara Brown get a job at UoO?

Hm, looks like the moment that Jezebel writer activities came under the microscope we see a sudden shift. Enjoy your monster, Dr. Frankenstein

Is anyone really surprised that this happened? We live in a day where people told that they aren’t allowed to, or are criticized for participating in the cultures of others regardless of their actual heritage, or their personal experiences within a particular culture simply for being or appearing white. Enjoy your

No, that’s segregation. Seriously, these people are being ironically bigoted.

You guys made this bed. Now lay in it.

a positive development. I won’t be satisfied until the only thing whites don’t feel bad doing is sitting in a windowless room reflecting on their privilege.
