As a pack a day smoker up until August of last year I can say it's worth the investment. My fiance, my father, a couple co-workers, and my future mother-in-law have all quit smoking using vaporizers as well, and I find myself using it less and less now.
Definitely give it a shot. I'd recommend skipping the pens altogether so long as you're willing to do the research. I spent a lot of money on a pen, then a couple of vv and vw devices and now I'm using a mod/rda. The vapor production and flavor is unlike what the pens are capable of.

The issues I have with "vaping" is the stigma - for some reason, patches which contain nicotine are cessation devices, gum which contains nicotine is a cessation device - but OH DEAR GOD, VAPE PENS ARE NOT A CESSATION DEVICE!
