I absolutely agree with you there.
I absolutely agree with you there.
I misread your comment completely. I think we all need to be able to admit gaps in knowledge and accept corrections without being belligerent and I totally did the opposite of that. I apologize.
I don't think you need to be Black to comphrehend Black culture but it absolutely helps, as this comment section has so beautifully shown. It also helps to know about Black culture before the concept of comprhending ever comes into play. Race is considered a proper noun but kudos to you for a Francis Welsing…
I didn't finger wave, nor did I call anyone an idiot. I believe the writer of the caption was referring to Mister but used Harpo's name erroneously. That is what I attmpted to convey but obviously flubbed.
No problem. I appreciate the correction.
It is a part of Black culture though. I don't understand why you would deny that. I'm assuming you're not Black, so maybe you really don't know.
A lot of Black people would think of The Color Purple first. We just would.
For a lot of people, and I do mean a lot, if you mention Harpo they will immediately think of The Color Purple. In fact, quotes from the book and film are regularly used in conversation and everyone gets it, without further explanation. It is in the popular lexicon for many, but obviously not for you.
You're absolutely correct. I realized my mistake after posting but can't edit.
Written by Alice Walker, a famous feminist that is credited with coining the term womanist for Black feminism.
For those asking, the meme is in reference to the character Harpo from The Color Purple. Harpo was a disgusting abusive character that took a a little girl as a wife and was interested in her sister.
I will proudly admit to owning several pairs of jeggings, in various colors. They are well-made, have actual pockets in the front and back and fit like a dream. I love them.
That...that is so horrible and cruel I actually have nothing to say.
Where did I say any of that? I asked if it was done maliciously AND mentioned that she could have contacted his family if she no longer wanted to care for the dog. You are making assumptions.
The girlfriend did this to be malicious, right? She could have contacted his family if she simply no longer wanted to care for the dog.
Black buying power is expected to hit 1.1 trillion by 2015. Black women make up an estimated 43% of that buying power; much of it being spent on cosmetics, hair care and other personal care items. Black people purchase nine times more beauty and grooming products than any other demographic.
You do realize Black people are not a monolith, right? That isolated incident has no bearing on what happened here. As a Black person, I take exception to the n-word every single time it is used and find the idea that Black people can be seperated into good and bad piles problematic at best.
I enjoy seeing pictures of people practicing. I do not follow any celebs, so I don't see those regularly.
It is so annoying & disgusting. And more often than not, after being rejected, the racial slurs start flowing.
Kim's statement is self-serving and wildly unbelievable. It is only being considered unworthy of snark by some because they relate to her idea that racism is someone else's problem. Reading that was a smack in the face.
