It was good to see you and Derrick and Danny and Will face to face again. 2020 seems like a fever dream.

Yeah, I was being very generous with the actual salt levels. Land O’Lakes has 90mg of sodium per tablespoon. Table salt has 2,300mg of sodium per teaspoon - more than the total amount in 3 sticks of butter. In any normal recipe, you just aren’t going to have enough salt in the butter to matter.
Oddly enough, this is pretty much exactly how we made peanut brittle in my high school chemistry class, except we heated everything in beakers set above bunsen burners. I’ve made it several times since either in a pot or in the microwave. It’s very forgiving - you don’t have to hit an exact temperature. If you’re a…
Yeah, it has not gotten good reviews anywhere either by users or professional reviewers. And considering it actually costs more than a similarly sized Cuisinart (that has its own motor) and is not significantly smaller, I struggle to come up with a reason to get it.
It’s funny that pretty much every new fried chicken sandwich entry is prefaced with “wouldn’t thighs be better”? Meanwhile, pretty much every non-chain place specializing in the FCS uses thighs. Of the local-to-Chicago FCS spots, to my knowledge only Roost is using breasts.
This comes nowhere close to the lifecycle carbon costs embedded in their system (e.g. - how are the ingredients harvested, delivered, packaged, how do the bakers get to the bakery, how are the final goods packaged/delivered, the embedded carbon in the manufacturing and disstribution of the brand new ovens they…
No brand of butter that I’m aware of puts more than 1g of salt per tablespoon of butter. If you are measuring down to the gram level, remove 1 gram per tablespoon of salted butter you are adding.
Salted butter burning quicker is a new one. It makes no chemical sense, especially as a typical steak is salted before cooking, so salt is ending up in the pan anyway.
I’m now gonna be that guy and tell you you’re wrong. 😉
I was told by a vet that cat food is formulated to smell/taste much better than dog food because the biggest feeding problem with cats was not eating enough and the biggest problem feeding dogs was eating too much.
It looks like someone added some super aggressive tracking into Kinja. Unless you disable everything (including Privacy Badger), Kinja simply nerfs.
While I’m also on TeamPistachio (seriously, why eat other [tree] nuts?), this is overall bad news.
Kinja comments are super nerfed right now - you can’t even read them in iOS or Firefox. You will hear nothing about it for days and then it will suddenly work again. Such are the mysteries of the Ghost of Nick Denton.
Pro-tip with the Freestyle machines - start with some plain or sparkling water. Dump that. Now fill with beverage of choice - far less bleed over.
Which brings up the question - why isn’t there a place that is deep frying their chicken sandwiches in schmaltz? You’re giving up free flavor!
Chicago area with a bunch of Wisconsin thrown in for good measure. Standalone Popeyes tend to be really gross.
While I understand the journalistic downside to all these new chicken sandwiches, I see nothing but upside as a consumer. You can now get a credible chicken sandwich at a whole host of places and that can be nothing but a good thing.
JK Rowling is currently the 3rd most popular contemporary fiction author alive and the 2nd most famous. She’s #4 among Millennials and #2 among women.
The number of people who care about TERFdom and Harry Potter is a rounding error on her sales. Incredibly online people, including actors, care but I’d bet 85% of people have no idea what a TERF is, let alone that JK Rowling should be driven from polite society for being one.
