Rappaport wasn’t in blackface - he was dressed as a Puerto Rican. That might be in the same general league as blackface, but it’s not really the same. It was literally just an outfit (and maybe the way he shaved his beard).

See, I knew you couldn’t let this one go. At least you went with the “bugs are icky” framing instead of the “bugs are our future” frame. 😉
Clearly, it’s going to be cicadas.
Sure - blame it on the pandemic. Fortunately, I have Discovery+ so I can now catch up a year (!?!) later.
Derrick was on GGG? How did I not know this? How did the two of you not hunt me down and force me to watch?
And I thought you were my friends...
Betterridge’s Law of Headlines strikes again!
I’ve got more condiments (store bought and homemade) than I can shake a stick at in my fridge.
I saw Oingo Boingo at the Riv the day after the 1988 election. Danny was... not thrilled that Bush won. I noticed by that time that he’d dropped “Capitalism” from his set lists. 😊
Salerno’s used to have a mint cookie that was even better - it was like a peppermint patty Twix. Vanilla cookie, mint creme, enrobed in fairly decent chocolate. I was sad when they went bankrupt - another company briefly resurrected the cookie but it’s gone now. (Snyder/Lance resurrected their butter cookies and owns…
Camp Fire was the first of the “scouting” movements to go co-ed and welcoming of kids of all stripes. They are officially open to all youth of any race, creed, religion, gender, national origin, economic status, and sexual orientation. (It’s not clear if atheism is OK but I’d guess it would be fine.)
Wait - they didn’t compare between Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers? “Girl Scout Cookies” are quite different depending on which bakery zone you live in (and hence the confusion between Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties - different names for different bakeries). LA is lucky in that while LA itself is a Little…
“Ordinary” olive oil is nearly taste-free - it’s been chemically processed to remove any flavor compounds as most of the flavor compounds left after heat treatment are bad. Extra virgin olive oil tends to be the most flavorful of the olive oils - it’s going to have the most amount of olive solids. Virgin olive oil…
Automats were hugely popular in the US back in the early half of the 20th Century. There have been a few revival attempts in NYC over the past decade or so, but none have really stuck. I think a few new-style automats are opening there this year.
Sounds like my kind of ice cream (I’m partial to mix-ins). Whenever I go to my favorite custard spot in the city (Lickety Split), I always get the Crazy Cake concrete - vanilla with a Red Velvet cupcake blended in. Cream cheese frosting FTW.
Buy two boxes of cheese, one of peanut butter - problem solved! Unless the problem is “I only want exactly two boxes worth of snacking goodness”, in which case, I can’t help you.
Sausage and grapes is a pretty standard Italian pairing (maybe not on pizza, but I haven’t really looked for it). Al Forno (originator of the grilled pizza) is secondarily famous for their sausage and grape dish.
Just on looks alone, the Heinz product looks heavy on the mayo while the Indi product looks heavy on the ketchup. Which makes the names they went with apt.
You never know - sometimes a thing works in a mashup that is awful by itself. The mayo may hide the defects in the BBQ sauce.
Then you need to change the ratios - go 2-to-1 on the cheese, for instance. I tend to do that when getting Chicago Mix (cheese/caramel) popcorn at Garretts, although in that case I dial back the cheese as it’s the overpowering one.
My wife’s parents live in AZ, so we’re out there fairly regularly and prickly pear has become a fairly standard flavor for us. I get a prickly pear ice cream every time I end up in Apache Junction. I’ve always thought it was in that strawberry/kiwi flavor space than watermelon.
