FWIW, this prequel really isn’t particularly building toward what happens in the first movie; it’s pretty much just this character’s story with the alien invasion as a backdrop.

Kudos to you for trying to find sympathy for this former officer, but I think you’ll see most cannot.  And for good reason.  An officer (former deputy) almost ended the life of a suspect, acting like judge and jury, which seems like most police want to be.  Not a good look.

So, somehow this was missed in the search before they loaded him in the car?
