I feel like the obvious “raw talent” counterpoint to overproduced modern vocal fluff to cite in this context might have been Janis Joplin, but I’m sure he “wasn’t even considering gender”. They never do, is the problem.

I also find it a bit rich that he only could think of men when he conceives of raw talent. It’s as if women are simply not capable of talent with machine-assisted tools or a man propping up her pop fluff.
