It’s not the idea of class systems that most here find so hard to take from Brooks, it’s the condescension. That his friend “only” has a high school degree. And then that he took her to get Mexican food because apparently that’s what uneducated folk eat. It’s dumb. He’s dumb.

Suggesting an alternative place to eat for somebody who isn’t comfortable isn’t weird. Assuming they aren’t comfortable because they aren’t as educated as you and telling that to the country is weird.

Can we please talk about the graphic and gross anti smoking ads? I get it you want people to stop smoking. Getting visceral is one way to do that... but um I DON’T SMOKE! NEVER HAVE! Can I please opt out of these especially while I’m trying to eat dinner and some kid is tearing off their skin to pay for their cigs?

That is pretty prevalent, if someone hates smoking, they have lots of things that they say glamorize it, yet often don’t think it applies to other behaviors, only the behavior they hate the most.

That’s true.

As a former smoker of 20 years, they shun you because you smell godawful. Even being within arm’s length of a smoker churns my stomach and gives me the most wretched headache.

Not to mention, someone who many consider the greatest screen actor of all time, Marlon Brando, played a superhero’s father. It’s not like this is some humiliation for an actress.

She’s a great actress. She deserved the Oscar (and it was pure comedy snobbery that people suggested otherwise.) But having a 51 year old play the aunt of a teenage boy isn’t particularly outraegous.

Its shocking how out of touch actors seem in these negotiations, but I totally believe that this would happen to a guy too. Often they’re pitched movie roles without any mention of their cultural significance until they get farther along.

Good for him. I hope he can parlay his success into something that makes him happy.

The real issue is that YouTube doesn’t have a way to classify videos as “not for little kids or easily butthurt snowflakes”, other than setting it to “adult” which basically just means porn.

Nope that’s not what he said at all. He said HE didn’t want to make kids stuff and feel like a fake douchebag. Because for him, he wanted to make more adult/less friendly stuff and doing the kids stuff was him selling himself out. He wasn’t calling anyone else fake pieces of shit.
