2009, not 2005, sorry.

I love Hawkins in Toronto because I was seated by the bullpen in 2009 when the WBC was there and the US played Canada. He got heckled by some Canadian fans and proceeded to trash talk back about Canadians, their inbreeding, and their tendency to live in trailer parks.

Great conversation.

A lot of the problems with smartphones right now, in my opinion, stem from how little developers of apps and OSs care about resources management. I have an Android that was top of the line when I got it a year and a half ago; firmware upgrades have taken it from snappy to slow in just that time span. I don’t ever play

Swap in Secret of Monkey Island 1 for 2, and do the opposite for Quest for Glory, and I’m satisfied.

Great piece. Agree completely.

See, I would say that a sport suffering from a PR crisis over its tendency to leave its players with debilitating brain injuries might not want to trumpet two players taking wild swings at each other’s heads.

I will never understand why some people take the idea of others listening to vinyl so personally. Why do people find that so threatening that they need to insult others?

The level of competition Serena faces is far higher level than Rousey does. That’s no insult to Rousey. It’s just that women’s tennis is much older and much more advanced than women’s MMA right now.

will be until she decides she doesn’t want it anymore.

You complain about classism, but your portrayal of Chik-fil-A customers is filled with classism.

I mean, like I said, I’m responding to a particular exaggerated claim. What’s sad is that a) a great, pioneering fighter gets sidelined like this without a second glance, and b) that I’m being accused of being an MMA hipster because I’m remembering a fighter whose last fight wasn’t even two years ago. Megumi Fujii

In my opinion, from a subjective assessment of their grappling and other technical fighting skills, I think it’s a big insult to say that Rousey is “vastly more skilled” than Fujii. That’s the specific claim I’m responding to here. And if you think that Zuffa hasn’t been very carefully selecting opponents for Rousey

If the claim is just that Rousey is better, relative to her competition, than Fujii, I’d likely agree. Rousey’s that physically dominant. But in terms of skills, Fujii was an absolute technician. Like you said: just my opinion.

she’s vastly more skilled than any woman who has ever thrown hands

I thought this piece was extraordinarily judicious, incisive, sensitive, compassionate to both rape victims and those falsely accused alike, free of hype, filled with just the right amount of historical detail, and uncommonly well written.

So I take it that when I finally get a new mobo and CPU this fall, I’ll have to spring for a new copy of Windows 10, eh?

She’s a self-described conservative Republican who has donated major money for years. That’s been an open part of her life for years, and she even said so in her initial interview.

Does it go into her political conservatism/Republican party activism at all? Would be interesting to see how they cover that.

Cutmen do the exact opposite of keeping fighters safe. They keep fighters fighting despite injury. Cutmen serve the match, not the fighter.
