And it should be said again that Gursky is know for his technique and the enormous size of his photos. This one is more representative of his work. I believe it is of a neutrino detector in Japan.

I don't think the image in question qualifies for this type of photo art. It isn't aesthetically pleasing, it doesn't exude a sense of calm - more a sense of foreboding or melancholy.
Yeah this is a tough one to defend. I guess I see it as a comment on the elimination of nature and the structured civilisation we have created - and the sense of futility and loneliness that comes with it. But even that is a long shot. I love art, and the whole idea of art for art's sake. But it is pictures like this,…
That you are wondering is exactly what makes this art. Why would he take a picture of this? Why this scenario? Nothing happens here. It is bland and boring. It simply a riverbank. So what is the artist trying to say? Well, your guess is as good as mine. Would I pay millions for it? No, even if I had that kind of…
Greatest game ever! Well apart from Master of Orion 2. Another option would be to build Biospheres for these guys.
That's the funniest thing I've read all week! Hahahehehuhrrr... Oh you weren't trying to be funny. *Gag*
Instant heart right there. Thank you.
So much better. The editing works - unlike the above clip...
I agree completely. I am a massive AC/DC fan and I also have great fondness towards Star Wars. But it just wasn't edited properly. The cuts were too many and too erratic. I suspect the reason people think this is awesome is because Thunderstruck is such a mindblowingly good rock 'n roll song. And that Star Wars is…
I know they were picked as an elite bunch out of a long list of candidates. If you could call them astronauts per se I don't know. But I am pretty sure they are as close as you can get. The reason most of them volunteered is because it enhances their chances of participating in a future Mars mission.
I disagree. I liked the story. I thought it was gripping and thought provoking. But I am a fan of fragmented story lines and jumping from character to character. It also reminded me of a Bangkok I love - and hope will be there for my kids to experience.
Please do - it is excellent. Weird and wonderful, with a sense of humour and Moebius' unrivalled imagination.
You definitely have a point. But I guess ESA had to bow to the wishes of the Russians (the complex and everything around the experiment is Russian). And maybe it would pose it's own difficulties having an all female crew? And could you even find so many qualified female astronauts who would be willing to do it?
I think it was brilliant. It did a lot for me. And I have no problem identifying reasons why nuclear, wind and solar doesn't work in this new world. Resource deprivation anyone? I would say it's not very plausible that none of those would have arisen - but laughable is a bit rich. You can always find something in an…
Oh and I forgot to write that the original video in this article is amazing. What an experience for those two.
One of the most saddening of extinction stories. Up to five billion passenger pigeons were eradicated due to poor regulation. An incredible slaughter of an entire species. The last one died alone in 1914.
The wikipedia link doesn't work because of parentheses so here's a bit.ly: [bit.ly]
The southern salt-marshes of Denmark and Northern Germany are "famous" for this phenomenon. It's called Black Sun or Sort Sol in Danish. It occurs every spring and fall. Up to a million starlings have been seen in one flock.
So in your opinion failure can only be measured in profitability? What about failure to produce a good movie- artistically, plot wise etc?
@AraRichards: I am guessing here, but was this the image you were going for?
