I am aware that Mapplethorpe was silenced. I don’t condone such tactics; censorship strikes me as a crime against humanity, as well as a tacit admission of fear on the part of the censor. (And shortsighted as hell, to boot. Especially in this day and age, where people can and do talk to the other side of the planet,

“mid career” is the best way I’ve ever heard to refer to those particular works from Mappelthorpe’s ouvre. Now I won’t have to refer to them as “those particular works” any longer in polite company.

What I find most bizarre about Rachel Vorona Cote’s piece is the girlish affectation of it: Like she’s covering her mouth and giggling at this artwork. I wonder if there is a male equivalent. Probably the most stereotypical male equivalent is actually “a five year old could do it.” But is there any other subject about

I hope a museum bought it. I know people like to mock contemporary art because it’s cool to act like it’s a big joke, but in Cattelan’s case, there is always humour, and absurdity, and it’s hard to gauge from this one piece but - and it’s not a word I use casually - he’s a genius and one of the best artists working

They take the crimes very seriously and treat them with genuine sensitivity and depth. It isn’t a brilliant show on the whole, but I give them full marks for that.

Hmmm. I’m trying to think of a possible solution to your wondering that. Hey I know what: try watching it yourself. Then what you indicate as your pathologically limited sense of imagination and creativity wouldn’t be a problem here. You won’t have to “imagine” what makes SVU so great, you can just see for yourself.

I miss Munch (so this week’s episode cheered me up no end) but Barba has done a lot to fill the snark gap. He’s hilarious. And there is always Fin.

I worked on Law and Order: Criminal Intent for a few years (sound editor), and I worked on this one episode where a fictionalized Dustin Diamond had been murdered, and they did an AMAZING recreation of Bayside High in the fake sitcom that the fake-Screech had supposedly starred in. And the lady cop was a huge fan and

It is arguably the best deadpan comedy on TV right now. It’s as much of a cartoon now as CSI: Miami, except it keeps on playing it completely straight.

Advocating for racial equality is not “partisan activity.” It’s common human decency. Sorry your white-boy feelings got hurt in the process. (Except, no, not at all.)

A question. Doesn’t the code talks about political PARTISAN activities? BLM is not a partisan political activity. It’s social activism but not partisan political activity.

The fact that you’re a former soldier and don’t see the difference between this and someone giving a nazi salute frightens the hell out of me.

Yes. Mainly because that’s completely and obviously different.

That’s “Academy Award Winner” Fisher Stevens, to us plebs...

Now that is a good piece of trivia.

yep. And in my experience, they tend to be staunch republicans... And into #alllivesmatter

Kotaku articles are pretty sensible. A depressingly large percentage of Kotaku comments are a grossly misogynistic shit show, and many of the commenters are in a near constant state of fury and outrage that the articles suggest that female gamers and game developers are human beings and should be treated as such.

JFK and Elvis attended.

I was trying to watch during commercial breaks of RHONYC but missed too much of it. Interesting to note that the photographer was played by Fisher Stevens, “best” known for his work in ‘Short Circuit.’ And his brother was played by Griffin Dunne, who I remember well from Madonna’s ‘Who’s That Girl.’

Did anyone catch the Dorothy Stratten references too? The boyfriend was dressed as Paul Snider and Sally said she wouldn’t go back to “the creamery” serving ice cream (Paul met Dorothy when she worked at Dairy Queen).
