Yes, but how would you make a “robust secure perimeter” out in the open ocean without using weapons? I’m picturing a bunch of private security boats trying to police a 1 mile diameter zone around the landing craft. How can they keep these small pleasure boats from getting through?

So you’d rather private security try to police open waters? What’s a private security force going to be able to do that the Coast Guard can’t in this situation? It’s not like Rent-A-Boat-Cops can open fire on trespassers either.

I’d like a lot more context and a failure analysis of the suspension component before I pass judgement one way or the other.

There’s a guy down the street from me that takes his Ural to Cars and Coffee fairly often. His dog rides shotgun in the sidecar.

This is a GREAT point, and you’re right about public chargers being head-in spots. We have a Leaf, and I’ve not come across any public charging stations that could accommodate a truck and trailer, though I’ve been to plenty of empty stations were you could park across a few spots to charge without annoying anyone for

I don’t think they really tried all that hard. Didn’t it only get like 4mpg better than the standard truck?

As far as I’m aware, Toyota’s hybrid systems have only used CVTs, which typically aren’t robust enough for truck duty. The parallel hybrid architecture they use is far more conducive for use with a CVT.

Subaru’s “heavy duty” CVT in the Ascent, which has a 5000lb towing capacity is the highest capacity CVT on the

Having personally driven across long freeway stretches of North Texas, a convertible is NOT the answer. Too much dust, the summers get too hot for a convertible to be comfortable, and the winters get cold.

lol. Try driving a Model 3 and then decide on the screen. It was distracting back in the very early software versions, but later updates have made it totally fine.

Eh, like many automakers, it depends. I’ve driven the S, the X, and the 3, and I daily drive an NB Miata, so I definitely like driving.

The Model X really isn’t all that special to drive, and is probably the most “appliance on wheels” of the Tesla lineup. It feels every bit as big as it is.

The Model S is actually

Possible counterpoint: Does the spoiler thing block headlights behind you like it does on the older Prius and the Honda Insight? I agree it’s bizarre at first, but I grew to really like that on our old Insight.

Plenty of people take their $60k JL Rubicons with all sorts of doodads installed on them offroading, so I guess so.

...which is cheaper than a fully automatic...

Sure, but the JK didn’t have the 8-speed the JL has.

I test drove a v6 JL with the 8-speed, and it had no issues getting up to freeway speeds and calmly staying there.

Yeah, like I mentioned, the Mohave trim makes more sense for a V8 Gladiator or Wrangler, where the rest of the suspension, tires, and differential are tuned more for desert running than forest trails.

I guess. My old YJ and Miata are my toys, but I’ve never felt like either needed a V8, though it’s not uncommon to put V8s in either one.

Unless the towing capacity got a significant bump with the V8 (and I doubt it will), I don’t see much of a point. The 8-speed in the JL already means the 6cyl can lope around on trails just fine.

This would be an absolute blast to drive around until it broke down and rusted to pieces.
