What the hell else could this thing be? The new Chevy Cobalt? Come on.
Easy, buy a BMW 440i Gran Coupe. It’s a hatchback, goes like stink, sounds great doing it, and can be had with AWD.
Why would they have to? If they kept following California’s standards for everyone, they’re good. The only reason to sell cars to different standards would be to save a few bucks on emissions equipment, and then they’d have to decide if maintaining different configurations actually saves them any money or not. In my…
I had a Ford salesman swear up and down that the windshield washer nozzle on the back of a Flex was the backup camera. I quietly walked to the next Flex over and showed him what a back up camera actually looked like. He had the stones to say “Oh, that’s just a different camera model”.
I never asked for a test drive…
I could have paid cash for my wife’s 2018 Leaf, which we paid a little under sticker price for, but Nissan gave us 0% financing for six years. After putting down a solid down payment to put the monthly payments into an easily affordable size should I lose my job or something, I’m keeping the rest of what I would have…
Yeah, the Leaf is my wife’s around town vehicle. It sees local highway use, but most just errand runs, and it’s excellent for that. We looked at CPO i3s before we bought our first Leaf, but my wife didn’t like the extremely aggressive regeneration in them that can’t be adjusted, like it can in the Leaf.
I didn’t say they weren’t complaining. I said I haven’t HEARD of any complaining. I’m part of the EV club at my work comprised of about 25 Leafs, several Teslas, and a few other EVs, and none of the Leaf owners have experienced degradation issues, and yes, I asked around before I bought one. It could be due in part to…
I’m just telling you that as the owner of two of them, having driven them in all seasons, it’s nowhere near as bad as all of these car reviewers seem to say. There were problems with 2011-2012 batteries dying in high temperatures (like AZ), but these batteries were replaced with a more stable chemistry, and 2013+…
Charging from solar is a huge “if” though, and solar itself isn’t cheap to install.
That would actually be really sweet.
I have a 2018 Leaf, and I really don’t think it needs more power. It already pulls away from traffic faster than any family hatchback has any right to (short of a GTI or something), and the torque genuinely punches you back in your seat at full throttle.
Eh, that’s a common complaint I hear from people who don’t own them. I haven’t heard a single actual owner complain about that.
How so? The biggest annoyance with them in the US is the gimped software to meet the California EV standards. If you flash it back to European settings, you can use the full gas tank volume, and don’t have to wait until 6% battery charge for the gas engine to kick on.
Just get a cheap 500e. They’re super cheap these days and more fun to drive than a Leaf.
I’m not sure what the author was on about. The US ones are assembled here using US-emissions approved Honda K-series engines. My coworker has one, and it was the same registration process as any other car. No hoops to jump through at all.
How is he screaming for attention? Every article I read covering the story just talked about the SEALs and the other members of the rescue team. The sub was a footnote at best.

Nope. He didn’t get a VIN for 4 weeks, and then waited 13 weeks while the cars sat in limbo due to an import paperwork issue. The dealer had no control over it, so they might as well have shaken a magic 8 ball to give him delivery times.
Not $2500 MORE, it’s simply a pre-payment on your custom configured car. So $1k reservation holders would be depositing $3500 toward their $50k custom ordered car.
