Perhaps a bit harsh on my initial reply to you. All I can say is that more choices is a good thing. Even Star Wars disappoints me these days, so I’ll watch (I even watch the unfunny The Orville) and hope it’s good...

A great read, thanks for the perspective! I felt that there have beeen several female characters (Padmé, a fave of mine) who because of their mistakes or failures end up being ignored as interesting or compelling characters. But I thought their journeys were just as important as those who “won the day.”
Yay! New article from CJA!
Two CJA articles in the same day? This is a good day.
Outstanding article, and it’s great to see Charlie Jane back, even if it’s just a guest appearance!
It’s not limited to Star Wars. He did the same for is star treks as well
It just feels like there is so much plot actively missing from these movies that is being reserved for the other stuff.
As many have pointed out, I don’t think anyone had a problem with the overall structure of the prequels in that TPM set up the conflict and possible ‘phantom menace’ (the Sith), AotC made everything seem bad only to get resolved into a victory for the good guys (the Republic and the clones), and then in RotS the good…
It just feels like there is so much plot actively missing from these movies that is being reserved for the other stuff. I’ve liked both of the films so far, but the obvious intention to fill the franchise with the rest of the story is a little frustrating.
I dunno, they seemed pretty certain during their 2 day chase of the Resistance that this was the entire group.
How else are they supposed to remake the plucky band of rebels story if they’re actually a government with a large fleet.
Your dedication to this deteriorating franchise is mind-boggling to me.
You should probably dismiss the racist troll posing as Lizardo.
I’t also clear that you don’t really understand how actual adults address the concept of standards. Enjoying something is about there being a collection of elements that appeals to a person. And these elements vary between one thing and another. And if you are an adult you can see value and connection worthy of our…
Above you see someone who is entirely unable to see anything beyond his very small box of what he wants and what he thinks is Star Trek. And everything else is wrong because it wasn’t written and presented for him. And he’s projecting his own insecurity at anyone who attacks his fantasy.
For the record I was born the same year Star Trek was cancelled. So feel free to get off my lawn as well (although your use of this is quite apt considering your argument is like an old man complaining about all these newfangled whippersnappers and how everything was so much better in the old days etc), as I’ve been…
Since Trek has tackled just about every topic under the sun, there is nothing that truly defines Trek uniquely. Starfleet, starships, people, aliens, villains, transporter, away missions... A combination of those define Star Trek, and so far this show delivers. If you want exploration and alien cultures and all that,…
I think you, like many others, think that Star Trek began in 1987 with Encounter at Far Point. Fact is, almost half of the problems in the series are how Federation officials, starfleet officers or scientists are screwing up, going nuts or have otherwise created problems on a small or vast scale, which had on numerous…
