Capitalism proceeds to ruin the internet

So basically fuck anything owned by a cable company. That’s our own decision.

AT&T doesn’t want to give YouTube any money. That’s what this is about. AT&T has been making some long term bets that I think will blow up on them. It started with HBO getting knocked off Dish Network (Dish, fairly, pointed out that AT&T is selling HBO at a discount on the content networks they own. Dish should be

I am not implying that this will be a quick death; much like the slow death of cable it will likely last through the next decade, but in that time content creators and viewers will suffer.

Corporate execs are not known for making smart decisions. It’s a fallacy that people at the top got there through merit. Not in our system.

If you ever have an opportunity to discuss it with your Congressman, let them know that the Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowed cross-media ownership. In other words, a phone company can also own a television company, magazine company, internet company, etc. The big ones (AT&T, Verizon, Disney, Comcast, etc.) have

And this is what happens when you sell your content to large corporations. Many smaller youtubers have been finding out that when you collaborate on videos, you don’t own them. And if you collaborate with larger youtube brands, you don’t own that video either.
Machinima should never have been sold off like that.

That release statement literally says nothing about the actual situation. It would have somehow been just as good as not saying anything at all.

See: when we broke Hollywood from owning their own theaters.

Though as we’ve seen with most near-monopolies, break them and they’ll find ways to reform.

Massive conglomerates trying to monopolize literally everything that gets posted on the internet and becomes moderately successful NEEDS to stop.

> As part of this focus on new content, we have pivoted from distributing content on a handful of legacy operated channels.

Fucking this. Massive conglomerates trying to monopolize literally everything that gets posted on the internet and becomes moderately successful NEEDS to stop.

I could understand putting a hold on future content; but removing already uploaded content makes no sense to me whatsoever since it costs nothing to upload and store content on YouTube. It is not as if leaving these videos public had some impact on their bottom line, in fact it would be quite the opposite since they

Machinima has a mucky history of being predatory on creators, and being a parasite of sorts. That said, Some of my favorite content over a span of ***MANY MANY*** years came from them, and seeing it nuked like this is wrong, and is not the way to go. Otter Media isn’t getting a penny from me anymore, namely from RT

Can we just stop letting cable and internet service providers also own all the content as well?

I do not care at all about Machinima, but removing a decade? of videos is insane. I hope the Gametrailers thing happens where someone buys the rights or whatever and archives the videos for people who do care. IGN saved all of GT’s videos and it was fucking great.

That doesn’t mean it’s good though! Just because something “was always that way” doesn’t mean it’s helpful or benevolent or good.

Ah — I wrote wrong there. I should’ve clarified, and if I could edit, I would. By “psychological,” there, I meant “purely psychological,” as in, separated from game mechanics. Things in the pure psychology domain include the “mind games” tactics like bullying, mocking, and overall trying to demoralize your opponent

But this isn’t a competition for “how much bullshit can you put up with from other players,” it’s a test of skill at the controls and mechanics of a video game.

I firmly believe that any psychological play is outside the game’s boundaries and should in fact not be a part of competition.
