@Tankueray: That's a great suggestion! D'oh!

@raichle: Manishevitz Motza Ball Soup mix is pretty good in a pinch. It's a little salty, like all dehydrated soup stock. But it doesn't take much shelf space and can easily be added to.

@mconnolly09: If you're truly "chill", put on a sweater. Otherwise you might just catch your death of cold.

Regardless the medical veracity of the article, it wins points with me for referencing Corky & Lenny's. That's one of the few things I miss about NE Ohio since moving away.

@revolution-inc: Long before 1995. DOS had txt files long before that. Plus, wasn't the ASCII standard first developed in the early 1960s?

Apparently, there are 11 decillion possible combinations with the characteristics of one of my passwords. And it'd take 100,000 computers approximately 3.94734232E+017 millennia to try all the possible combinations.

I bought Burning Studio in the past. It worked well. But I prefer InfraRecorder these days.

For some jobs, it might make sense. As I spend my day at the computer, a fancy phone serves me little. My cell phone sits on my desk all day. If someone calls me when I'm away from my desk, I likely couldn't have taken the call then anyway.

@Logical Extremes: No, there's no HD. It's basically SDTV quality, which is great for reruns of Quantum Leap. But widescreen movies get chopped like they were broadcast on your local independent TV station.

Lard is the only good source of seasoning for cast-iron cookware. I've tried vegetable oils and shortening. They're functional but not great. Lard, at least for the way I cook, provides a better coating.

I used to have a cordless Trackman Optical. That mouse was the best I ever had. Unfortunatley, RSI in my right arm is associated with, among other things, using my index and middle finger to mouse or move the ball. So now I mouse left-handed.

I've been using Toucan from portableapps.com, and it is pretty painless and useful.

I think variety of distributions can be a pain. If a program is designed to run on Windows, it works in Windows. But figuring out which dependencies from which distribution to work with which GUI are needed just to install a program can be daunting.

The fact that this doesn't require admin privileges is reason enough for me to try it out. I love Truecrypt on my own computers. But traveling can be a hassle.

"Drugstore wrap" with aluminum foil is also great for cooking meals in the coals of a campfire.

Curiosity and the convenience of Wubi. But it didn't last due to the inconvenience of unsupported hardware.

There's one in the hallway of the 1-story house in which we live. As noted, it doesn't do much for humidity, which is more annoying to me than heat. We don't use ours as often as we'd like.

@RelativeRon: You're not entirely wrong. They're not "truly replacements" in that Explorer will still be running.

@Darkmatter91: Uberpimped file managers are really only useful if you manage a lot of files. Most people I know wouldn't find them useful.
