I had a conversation with a group of people about this before. My thing is you can definitely lessen your risk of having an interaction go sideways with most non-biased/racists cops.

Sheila Oliver, who first introduced the bill, states:

No, this is not how it works fellas. It is the job of the police to interact with the the public without, y’know, killing them.

They’d save way more money and make better progress by getting rid of racist/bully cops and training whatever’s left on how to respect and care for the people they’re paid to protect.

How ‘bout a bill that requires classes teaching police how to interact with kids?

If we could trust judges...maybe, but the fact of that matter is that even when they know the law, judges can be just as likely/willing to allow their tiny little lizard brains take control and make the wrong decision. At least this way there’s more than one person in on the discussion and jurors (as evidenced above)…

So what we’ve learned here is that this juror is ignorant about sexual assault, apparently didn’t actually listen to the evidence, had already made up his mind before entering the courtroom, and has watched enough episodes of Columbo to learn the phrase ‘smoking gun’. Go figure.

We have a dearth of people who can think critically about literally anything here in the U.S., let alone people who can think critically about legal matters.

My favourite is the type of man who rants about women in burkas - with some faux outrage about women’s rights - but would be outraged if his girlfriend wasn’t wearing a 4 inch mini-skirt on Saturday night out, and hasn’t quite managed to connect the two attitudes.

I do not have a firm opinion on the following issue, but a lot of people in the Legal Academic field in Brazil agree that trial by jury should be abolished. Because, despite the logic of “judged by peers”, the current average juror is to ignorant on Law to properly decide on these matters... I don’t know.

The stupidity and horribleness of men and how they talk about sexual assault—because of course a bare midriff means “drug me and fuck me any time you want”—makes me sick. What the fuck is a “smoking gun” in a rape case? Ugh. Ugh. Aaaaaarrrrgggh

This is just awful, that poor girl, her friends and family. So glad that monster has been arrested (and so quickly).

Yet detectives state that they have “not gotten any indication that this was motivated by hate or bias.”

I think she got a big pass when she clashed with Trump, and no one realized she is a shitty “journalist”. But she is not at all good at her job. Stephen Colbert did a much harder (and better) interview with Oliver Stone the other night than Megyn Kelly did with Putin.
