It’s May 2017. If this was happening in 2018, they’d need to start planning about five months ago. I’m guessing the planning will begin sometime in 2018.

I read today that McFarland spent the seed money on models and yachts. Seriously. No other women were allowed to go on the planning trips. I also read that they announced in November but didn’t start planning until March.
Yes, but the Speaking Conch will be included.
I think the dominoes are just beginning to fall. We keep hearing “Ja Rule” and “Billy McFarland” but if their lackeys aren’t total idiots, they’ve lawyered up and are getting their stories and emails straight.
Thanks. The TMZ photos showed surprisingly regular-looking people, which makes me feel bad for them. I was hoping for triangle tops with fringe and flower crowns.
Agree. I traveled for work a few weeks ago and it was only 2 nights in a hotel and with that and airfare and per diem my expenses totaled about $1300.
Yeah, I read one account (can’t remember if it was here or at NYMag, maybe?) where someone split a cabana with a bunch of her friends, so they all paid just over $1,000 each for the week. Sounds reasonable to me.
Yeah, it’s a bit too schadenfreude-y for me. Laugh at and mock the organizers, sure. Gasp at how gullible the five and six figure ticket holders were, but with slick marketing and signed acts, I don’t know how many of us wouldn’t have been at least interested.
Agree with your tangent. Jia Tolentino at New Yorker (formerly of Jezebel) talked to someone who paid under $600 per person, all included. That’s a really good deal for what they thought they were getting, and not something you need to be wealthy to afford. The rich-kids-getting-what-they-deserved part of this…
Right? I probably wouldn’t attend this particular festival (as I never even realized it was happening, as I am not the target demographic), but I’m also scratching my head about how people who spent $1k-$3k are somehow worthy of ridicule and should have “known” this was a scam.
I’m sure that, at some point, I’ll tire of hearing about this, but not yet. Not even close. Pass the popcorn!
Yes, more stories, more, more! Give me sustenance!!!
Two questions:
I wonder how many screenplays are being pitched about this goat rope, whether comedy, horror or some of both.
I heard there’s a festival called Trumpster Fyre in DC right now? All the Bud Light you can drink plus a discounted burial plot? You just have to be sick and not rich to get in for free.
Apparently it’s moms - literally. Middle class white women in their 40s and 50s who perhaps envision her as the perfect daughter they wish they had - polished, quiet, well-married, and saddled with two children. Rather than the queer, liberal, activated and furious pussyhat-wearing chicks that they actually spawned,…
+1 Trumped-up trickle down
You mean Mother?
Bourgie rich kids who want to be seen supporting “trendy” liberal ideas without actually believing in them. They’ll talk about empowerment, leaning in, disruption, and having it all, but denounce feminism and think the wage gap is a myth.
