No, it shouldn’t have been a landslide. That’s not how American politics works anymore. Almost no one actually votes across parties, which makes sense: even the worst candidate from your party is going to make policy you consider better than the best candidate from the other party. Trump’s a dimwitted madman whose

Fuck that incrementalist shit. If a party doesn’t want to fully nationalize the means of production and institute a wealth cap, they can look for votes from fake liberal Democrats while The Real Left demands better.

The parties aren’t symmetrical. A Democratic celebrity president wouldn’t know anything about the job, but would hire liberal experts and listen to them because expertise is something Democrats care about; they wouldn’t know international relations inside and out, but they’d work hard not to alienate world leaders

The most uneducated Trump voter in Florida will never vote for a Democrat because they’re not explicitly racist, so they can get fucked. If I have to choose between the party of bourgeois civil rights and working-class white supremacy, it’s not debatable.

The underlying assumption of all these “crushing Democratic defeat” stories is that the result should have been a 500-electoral vote, 70-30 victory, so literally any outcome in the realm of political feasibility would be susceptible to the same critique.

The thing is, Dems have been changing. If you don’t take it as given that every progressive thing a prominent Democrat says is a lie, it’s obvious the party is miles to the left of where it was even when Obama was elected. Complaining that the party is moving right or failing to adapt is absolutely ludicrous.

These parties and their actions aren’t, and never will be, as simple as “good” and “bad”.

being the party of identity politics

to wrangle their centrists

All those poor white working-class voters who were totally ignored by the Democrats seem awfully attached to the corporate-welfare anti-left scam of the ACA. You know, the one the Democrats pushed through Congress at the expense of many of their seats?

See, everyone who matters hates the center left (coincidentally, just like HamNo does) but loves the far left (coincidentally, just like HamNo does). Democrats will never win another election until they stop seeking common ground with moderates and support [whatever leftist policy they last failed to support].

Nope, gotta burn it all down. If a Democratic administration can only be counted on to expand the safety net, protect the rights of minorities and not annihilate America’s standing in the world, what’s the difference between them and Republicans? They’re identical, just like Clinton and Trump were identical.

Clinton had tons of very, very progressive plans! It’s just that it was impossible for Real True Leftists to ever trust her, for reasons that certainly aren’t rooted in believing rightwing propaganda or treating politics as a mode of self-expression.

But he’s a mainstream, liberal Democrat, so I think HamNo hates him on principle.

Unless, according to Lindsey Graham, that man is Ted Cruz. Then it’s open season.

The media loves perjury and plagiarism, because they can “objectively” call something bad behavior. When perjury lets you talk about secret meetings with a Russian spymaster, even the hackiest both-sidesers are going to get in there.

His wife’s emails, if I remember correctly.

He had to resign from the Senate after being confirmed, sooo...

What’s astonishing is he dodged the question in order to commit perjury. Why even bother?

Apparently the other Senators didn’t have contact with him because he’s known as a spy recruiter as much as a diplomat. NOTHING SHADY HERE, NOPE.
