I still don't think Nokia Maps stand a chance compared to Google Maps in sheer information available. I'm also pretty sure they do not have public transit info here in London, not to mention lack of street view. These are all things I use pretty regularly. Where Nokia Maps wins is in it's looks.

You don't need root on Android to use WiFi tethering provided your OS version isn't ancient and your carrier doesn't have any draconian restrictions in place.
