It is double tap for all iDevices I have seen. Perhaps your friend has some sort accesibility thing set up. Or he could have set that up on activator.

Chrome, FF, IE all have puase built in.

When you look at the video above, you would think it is very smooth. I tried it in Bing Maps, and it is the choppiest thing in the world. When I click the 90/180 degree turn buttons, I suddenly lose my orientation and it would take me a while to get it back. I guessed that it would be better in IE, so I tried that as
