He’s kind of 20+ years late, but you know...did he even see when he lost the Kwik-E-Mart? Classic television man. Now I don’t know if anything wrong with him, but the show should have died a long time ago too. I don’t know, it feels weird trying to argue about it now.

We live in a world where everyone has a deep and personal problem with everything. I have hit the point where I am utterly burnt out from everyone having a problem with everything and have entered a state of nearly perfect apathy to the plights of the world.

Go and watch a handful of new episodes. Sure, some are just God awful, but they’re not as bad as you think. Then, go back and watch the early Simpsons episodes. On the whole, they’re not as good as you remember.

This is the most up to date guideline endorse by the American College of Radiology, the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations, the Child Neurology Society, the Neurocritical Care Society, the Radiological Society of North America, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

“In this case, for instance, science literally has no idea if this girl might ever recover or not.”

I am an ICU doctor and I routinely do brain death exams on patients. A couple of things to be mindful of...

Medical technology does not “have to peak” to develop a correct protocol. You are arguing that if you do not have absolute truth then nothing is true, which is an argument that lacks any merit.

Except scientific studies show that they do.

Yes, it does mean it’s correct. It’s the standard used by neurologists.

In other words, you believe that science should rely on superstition to determine whether brain death has occurred.

No, neurologists have developed a well-accepted protocol to determine when brain death has occurred.

What he wrote is accurate; your religious beliefs have absolutely zero impact on whether you have a better outcome or not.

That’s fair, but when speaking with a lay person I generally don’t get into the fact-vs-theory thing, since mostly all that does is muddy the waters and lead to people saying things like how since evolution is a theory that means it hasn’t been proven. And, to be fair, science is based in fact: the facts of

It’s not really that challenging for a doctor who is required to treat according to medical standards. He may not like what he has to do, but that doesn’t change his obligation.

For the moment, though, brain death IS a thing. It is a standard of some sort that doctors use to define when someone is dead - including this child who was declared dead years ago.

It’s not as clear cut as you think.

For instance, Jehovah’s Witnesses fought issues (such as blood transfusions) that helped establish more patient autonomy in their health care decisions and health care law.

This on the other hand, not to be cruel, seems like a waste of precious medical resources.

That is bullshit and it should have no baring on science.

I had no idea this was still going on.

I saw them twice, both times as an opening band. I saw then open for Dinosaur Jr. and later for Sonic Youth.

50 years old here. I remember standing in a record store (!) in a mall (!!) in 1991 I think when someone put Smells Like Teen Spirit on to test out some stereo equipment. It’s hard to believe I was ever that young. Honestly, that’s all I got.
