having just got off the Night Shift, this post has left me Stone Blue

I dunno man.  Everything has to do with Foghat.

Agree.  Plus it was a nice way to see (heavily modified) Reynard Champ Cars!

Are you saying the CIA caused the Managua earthquake?
Well, I can’t prove it.

so great :)

Oh that’s good info!  I’m gonna need to watch it this week for sure.  Yah, I have the DVD and all, but it’s been a while since I’ve watched it.

I’m guessing, sadly, Sneakers isn’t likely to get much of a popularity boost until/unless one of the key folks passes away (other than River Phoenix of course).

First things first:  THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING SNEAKERS!  Such an underappreciated and almost forgotten movie. It’s important we remind people about it every once in a while!

I’ve only ever seen the Baldwin & Ford movies (and a fair amount of the Amazon series), so I can’t comment too much here. I like the first three

I get the general gist of the point here, but I have got to think most teams have factored repairing damage into their budget. That would be super reckless if not.

Yah, I get it. Resigned to the fact that it happens. There’s been a few times on long international trips where the last US leg to get back to Cleveland has had me pretty salty. I remember one where some doofus 25 yr old was moving bags around above me to find space. I had my bookbag up there and then the way he left

Am I the only one who struggled with needing to be extra nice during all these interactions? It’s already an annoying process (travel) and then TSA is making it worse. So I have to go out of my way to say “yes sir, no sir” and be on best behavior while just barely hiding my annoyance (or sometimes murderous rage)

Oh, it’s dropped now for sure. I was flying in and out of Newark (mostly, but sometimes JFK) and BWI or DCA a fair bit in summer of 2002 (internship in New York). That old SSSS on the boarding pass, which I was told anecdotally was usually 4-6 people/flight, managed to be on my boarding pass 100% that summer. It

Oh man. The number of times I’ve had an extra security check as often the only brown person in business class....Somehow I pop up on the “random” check like 70% of my flights. [all pre-2020 of course]

Luckily never confronted by actual cops, just TSA goons.

I’m glad to hear this didn’t end badly and he stood up for not

I think your last sentence covers me here.  They can f-around as much as needed, I just want to watch Reno 911!

drive slow car fast and what not...

Our is just the older toaster van not Previa unfortunately. They couldn’t be bothered to give it a proper name for the US (though the other markets got cool names like Town Ace, Master Ace, Lite Ace, Tarago, Space Cruiser, and Model F.  We got “Van” or “Van Wagon”).  “Previa” was a BIG improvement for marketing in the

For sure.  The Previa did probably blow my mind more than our Van.  It felt way more futuristic for sure.  A pretty big leap forward from our Van.   I thought about picking that here, but the Eclipse gets my main pick and tossed in the bit about my Van for good measure.  The Previa definitely still feels ahead of its

For middle class folks (engineer dad & school teacher mom), we managed to have some interesting automotive picks and stereo equipment/electronics. My brother is super into that stuff, so I think my dad got lucky that each of us were drawn to one of his interests :)

I still pine for a Galant VR4.  As cool as the Eclipse (or 3000GT) was, I love me that sleeper vibe.

The MR2 certainly was one of the coolest cars when I was a kid.  It didn’t look like anything else out there and being a non-exotic vehicle, you’d see them pretty frequently.

1990 Eclipse GSX that my dad bought in November 1989. I was only 8 and that thing was a GOTDANG ROCKETSHIP. And looked super cool too. Orange dash lights...pop up headlights....graphic equalizer. Turbo AWD goodness.

Between that and our 1984 Toyota Van LE (5 speed), I think it’s clear where my love of all things
