The SSR could be had with an LS2. Power wasn’t the problem.

Not only that, the revised V6 that came in 1999 kept up with other V8 muscle cars of the day because Plymouth made a lot of use of aluminum and did a good job keeping the weight down; it just didn’t have the V8 rumble. Look at the performance numbers and pricing, the Prowler was actually pretty competitive.

The funny thing is - that engine made 10 less HP than their V8 at the time (50 less tq, I think), and weighed FAR less than the V8 - it was actually the better choice till the Hemi came out much later. 

As a former 04 GTO owner, I can see why people found it disappointing from a naming perspective. It didn’t really have anything in common with the old GTO, and I think it was a mistake to call it that, but it was/is a fantastic car.

Even if we ignore the profiling (allegedly of the car), how does “that license plate doesn’t come up” immediately jump to “it must be stolen, hold this family at gunpoint” and not “huh, I wonder if I typed something in wrong” or “I should follow this car to a safe location that isn’t the side of a freeway to pull them…
