OK, I stand corrected. I just think the idea that any one reviewer or website should mirror the critical consensus all of the time is silly. There’s plenty of much-praised recent movies that the AVClub did like (e.g. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Parasite, John Wick 3, Toy Story 4). If an individual reviewer doesn’t

It’s February, there’s just a lot of mediocre movies out is all.

I don’t get her. Probably because I’m an old. I like being an old. It keeps me from understanding stuff.  Like why kids want to dress up like highlighter markers.  Is that a drug thing?  Probably.  Bunch of little bastard dopers.  Ought to call the cops on ‘em.  Billy Elijah is a juggalo.

Joker is not a comic book movie, and it’s annoying that every critic feels the need to claim it is so as to pretend that actual superhero movies deserve to be ignored because they’re...oh, let’s say, not cinematic enough. And yet, they mostly claim Joker sucks, too! We call this trying to have our cake and dance it

Why does a Kenobi movie have to be about him protecting Luke? I’m glad they are stopping if that was their plan.

Disney should stop before they do something stupid like make a film about Han Solo when he was younger starring someone that’s not Harrison Ford three movies without a roadmap, character arcs or clue who the bad guy is going to be.

I think an under-discussed criticism of ROTS is how the ending feels like two years worth of significant, galaxy-altering events that apparently take place in a single afternoon.

As you pointed out, he isn’t actually in a Feige-type role when he clearly should be.

i wonder if Kennedy is worried about her job if he gets too much responsibility. I know I’d be fine with him replacing her.

Lucasfilm does have it’s Feige. His name is Dave Filoni. But it sounds like, outside of his animation projects, the politics of that company do their best to steer him clear of the live action side of things. The guy has a pretty clear head about canon and he’s extended it quite well through his animation projects.

it turns out that maybe not everyone is Kevin Feige?

The thing that struck me was how affable and funny Ken Jennings was. In the first episode, after (I believe it was) James razzed Alex Trebek in the Final Jeopardy by writing in who was the best game show host and crossing out Pat Sajak’s name, Alex quipped about this being a comedy show, to which Ken then deadpanned

Brad tried to adjust to James’ style by betting aggressively on Daily Doubles and Final Jeopardy. He just kept getting the answers wrong. A little-discussed element of James’ domination was that, while he did expose the reality that the whole show all kind of comes down to those four opportunities to double-up

Exactly! For all of Brad’s underwhelming total, his consistent landing of the DD (something like all but 4 or 5 of the 24) significantly impacted the other two players, functionally truncating part of James’s strategy and essentially just making the earlier games head to heads.

Dude, this was like a sporting event, not the final installment from MCU or Star Wars. Are you gonna be upset in two weeks when all the news sites spoil the super bowl?

Was my take as well. He never says he is more Woke and never pretends to be but I loved him ripping them for all working with Weinstein and not doing anything about it. That is so true and them being Epstein’s friends. I thought he was great.

Gervais interrupted himself with a little rant about how everyone in the audience is a hypocrite for working with big companies like Amazon and Netflix and Apple and how nobody has the right to thank any of these companies in their speeches because none of the actors in attendance went to school.

Gervais has been more of an asshole, and not in a funny way, of late.
