Hearing Toyota and Nissan in the GT1 game in 1995, Honda joined them too using the NSX. The car was GT1 ready, with addition of turbo to hopefully make it competitive. So no need for a homologation special.

They did “cheat” - kind of. When the car was originally a GT1 class car (1998) they successfully convinced ACO that the fuel tank, when empty, is where the luggage belongs. (Other manufacturers that went to the loophole route for the GT1 class explicitly have trunks). That went moot when the car was ready as a LMP
