Correction: people who buy the most expensive car they can afford, will likely never be able to afford purchasing a house on the beach in the OC.

Agreed, most people overestimate their ability to negotiate. These sales guys are trained professionals, and most people are going to loose if they try to beat them at their own game.

Well, for the record, I don’t think it is true. There are a lot of bad cops, and there needs to be some serious reform, especially with the way that they interact and treat minorities. There are way too many that have god complexes and too many are authority junkies. However, there are just as many out there that take

True, compared to today’s trucks it is not all that great, but it seemed good at the time.

https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/acab - “The acronym ACAB stands for “All Cops Are Bastards” and is a slogan of long standing in the skinhead subculture.” Just wanted to make sure all the people here understood where your stupid acronym came from.  I would state my opinion of your comment, but I

Hard to remember exactly, but I think it got about 25 mpg. It had a 4cyl with a 5 speed.

CP, it’s close to being a NP, but there is just too many little things to allow me to choose it. I would put this car at 5K or slightly less.

#3 - Some people need a truck, but not necessarily one that can tow their house. It snows about an inch once per year, so I have no need for four wheel drive (as long as they don’t make the truck so damn heavy it can’t move in a little mud). I am an avid DIY person, I need something that I can throw a few bags of

When you go with Yugo, you push! (my proposed marketing slogan for Yugo’s back when they were a thing).

Well, you are technically correct, but it is clearly not what he was implying.

But it does not have the standard features the Rivian has at $20K. You are comparing apples to oranges. That is like saying a Chevy truck is 1/2 the cost of a F150 because you can buy 2 base models for the price of a fully loaded F150.

You would be surprised. Rivian seems to be going for the luxury side of the truck market. The listed base price of a Ford F150 Platinum is $54K and there a ton on the lots going north of $60K. When you factor in government incentives for EV, the Rivian is competitive.

Yes, but it is hell of a lot easier to get capital when you tell investors you are being backed by Amazon and Ford. The real win here is not the money, it is the clout. Also, conceivably, future sales to Ford of vehicle components.

I agree with others on here, rent a u-haul and a trailer to get back home. Better yet, donate it to charity or sell it to a junk yard. You don’t need yet another piece of “yard art”. This thing is just not safe. I appreciate the effort, and think the concept of getting a beater prepped for a cross country trip is a

I enjoy reading Jalopnik, and do think they are harsh with Tesla, but they don’t have enough clout to effect the success or failure of a car company.

Tell that to the judge when your on trial for vehicular manslaughter for killing someone while you text and drive. Studies have proven time and again how dangerous it is, and you don’t have a super power. Put the damn phone down and drive.

An F-150 Platinum starts at about $54K, so with incentives, fuel savings, etc, that pricing does not seem to be that far out of line. There is going to be a strong market for this, if they execute it well.

Here is my thought, a car is a depreciating asset, and so this car has probably depreciated about as much as is it will. He is talking to a dealer, so if he could the $4K you suggested to and paid retail, he would end up with a car that still is not worth much more on trade in than his Jetta. The Jetta is a known

NP - I have always thought these were extremely cool. This would be a perfect candidate for a K20 motor swap.
