When the stuff was coming out with him last month, she mentioned that he visited the set of House and said a bunch of racist shit to her.

*Declines offer for more money and a bigger role in an award winning movie because she feels uncomfortable.*

The thing that bothers me here is, she is probably right, and Franco is almost definitely (or definitely?) a creep/predator, and Seth Rogen is most likely an enabler who should probably be forced to reconcile with that, but her Instagram post is atrocious. I understand the emotional aspect given the subject matter,

Being black has nothing to do with Sam being denied the loan. Sure his sister decided to play the race card but they clearly state that they do not have a source of income. Banks do not tend to loan money to those that don't have money to pay the loan. However this also doesn't make complete sense as Sam is doing

Okay, so I lost my Mom 10 years ago to colon cancer - I was one of her primary caregivers for the year we had her from diagnosis to her death. To call that a traumatic year - the last week or so of hospice in particular - would be a gross understatement.

I really wish they recast Cas Anvar. Seriously start the episode with a new actor piloting the Razorback, have Bobbie call him Alex and just go from there. The pacing, editing, reshoots, digital trickery and everything else was so very obvious to get that creep Anvar out of the show. It dragged me out of the

Cheery isn’t even a dwarf.

I may be more annoyed about Cheery than Lady Sybil here. First of all, how about they cast an actual dwarf actor? Apart from making no sense in the narrative to have Cheery average sized, it just feels like taking a job away from someone who could actually play the role authentically. Secondly, Cheery’s journey from

That’s a good point! Indeed, Vimes is both mentally and physically attracted to Sybil even though she’s older than him AND larger than him. And that’s not used as a punchline (at least, not beyond Pratchett’s general make-fun-of-everything baseline).

Sarah. Lancashire. Age appropriate, TV “overweight”, plays tough easily, is capable of a soft side, etc. Wouldn’t hurt that she’s starred in a police show before.

Great post, and great notes on casting - which is reflected by how Neil Gaiman was casting Good Omens as well, gender-blind for quite a few characters who are “he” in the book, because it actually doesn’t matter as long as the character stays intact. Same for ethnicity: when I read the books as a kid I imagined

As cutting people in half to count the rings is generally frowned upon may I suggest Wikipedia?

While I agree with your points in principle, I think it’s at least as likely that Sybil’s transformation here, rather than being an attempt at feminism, is just the writers wanting a sexy dragon-wielding terrorist, and choosing a name from the books to staple that character onto.

One aspect of this rings incredibly true to Pratchett.  There’s no mention of Colon and Nobbs, which means those two sensed a bad scene and fucked off in advance.

One thing that makes this sort of adaptation rankle is how much thought Pratchett put into even small characterisation details, let alone the big ones. Vimes being cleanshaven is central to his character: he’s a man who sticks to his own sense of what is right and proper, even while recognising that the world around

See, in the novel, Sybil is a large, middle-aged woman with a matronly manner who uses her unashamed wealth and class, and a great understanding of interpersonal soft power, diplomacy and connexions, to try to do some good from within the system. And who later becomes an enthusiastic mother and housewife.

I hear Richard Dormer is really bad in this, which sucks because it’s the one casting that made absolutely perfect sense.

Yeah, that was...a choice. :/

“Lara Rossi is undeniably charismatic as dragon-wielding terrorist Lady Sybil Ramkin

This breaks my heart. I’m still going to watch it and hope the website that gave The Wizard of OZ a D+ is wrong, but as a HUGE fan of the Night Watch series this is dour news indeed.
