So there is a mod that alleviates this somewhat. Someone took all the backgrounds and ran them through a waifu x2 filter. The result is a lot cleaner backgrounds but also loses some detail. It almost makes everything look like a water-colour story book feel which is not entirely out of place for the game

It still saddens me to this day that most of the original art design and code for this game was lost and that Square never valued the archiving of this beautiful art.

It seems to sound like you’re describing the mod as something for people who want to kill children, rather than let children die. Skyrim has a bunch of systems going on and some of the best stuff that happens are things where a series of weird AI stuff happens and NPCs die in some way, not even by your own actions.

I remember the biggest problem with this game in early access was the end game. The bosses the other side controls was just too powerful, or the boss would die in a second. Most matches ended with the boss winning and every other player winning the game by default.
