@Strakus: The reactor-driven system is a great plan, but unfortunately succumbs to the same weaknesses of terrestrial launch vehicles.

@szielins: Agreed. Though a better system for surveying the Martian surface would be a glider or self-powered drone akin to the military's Predator or other UAV's.

Seriously. The vast majority of UFO reports can be attributed to usually-ineffective test aircraft sightings.

@Brian Schlosser: To be fair, those guys get that treatment from the Dale Gribble-types everyday.

@rotundo: Transmetropolitan, despite being a nominally liberal society, still has major problems from the nature of the Executive in American society.

Of course, science fiction is partially based on exploiting the idea of moral relativity. To a militarist society, an acceptably defense-minded society is a pacifist collective waiting to be conquered.

@WFROSE: It'll take decades before we (specifically, the SCotUS) come to terms with all of the constitutional issues from the Noughties in the US. And with the current court's makeup, it's unlikely that we'll get any of those 4th Amendment rights back.

Actually, this isn't terribly criminal. Her behavior indicates distress upon being screened (indicating she is hiding something).

@JRD_2: No really. This is a fairly short critique.

This is pretty cursory compared to the "dystopias where conservatives have won." And this is coming from a socialist!

@Daemon_Gildas: There are plenty up North too. I've met fewer truly backwards rednecks since moving to Texas than I did in a single year in downstate Illinois.

@Paul Soth: I'm really surprised that the presenters, their producers, and the show itself made it through that one.

#23 looks like Sinestro is making sure that Abin Sur is added to the memorial hall.

@Toastie: Not the original Guardian, but Morrison's take on him. Is he a vigilante, or a reporter, or a bodyguard or corporate mascot?

@Pavement clawing maniac: There's the case to be made that we should stop viewing evolution in purely genetic terms.

@fluffywarthog1029: Chuck Palahniuk's 2008 novel "Rant." It starts off as a fictional biography of a daredevil redneck, but pretty quickly turns into a dozen other things.

The Guardian from Grant Morrison's "Seven Soldiers."

Wat?

@Nivenus: Yeah...ethically dubious in the most extreme cases, but pretty defensible.

This could have some interesting applications. Reminds me a bit of the Historians from "Rant": People who used time travel to grandfather paradox themselves and thereby become immune to space-time.
