Actually my mom’s mantra was “Buy real estate, buy real estate, buy real estate!” all my childhood. Turned out to be really good advice since I live in coastal California. I guess the only better advice would have been “Buy Google” but she wasn’t that clairvoyant!

Not technically salary, but allowing you when flying for business to fly first class or business class (when available) on flights over a few hours, is huge.
