Can someone explain to me how Miles Morales inherited Spider-Man's powers? Was it merely by virtue of watching Parker die/was there a magic transference of abilities that occurred as Peter Parker ascended into superhero heaven? Did there just happen to be another radioactive spider hanging out?

It really doesn't make sense that these villains who themselves have plotted and attempted to carry out horrible atrocities/acts of terrorism are made particularly sad by 9/11. If we want to view supervillains as a representation of evil, having someone like Doctor Doom shown crying seems like the last thing to do.…
