“particularly for viewers who—unlike me—aren’t immediately inclined to like anything dog-related”

I do not doubt that in the least. I grew up in an abusive home where the scenario you describe was my life.

He was an immediate threat to her and her mother’s lives at any other time. He was violent and physically bigger. This was her only option for self defense as she was trapped living with her abuser.

BS charges like this is why I’d support a change to self defense laws to include child abuse as a legal reason for use of deadly force. Especially when in the act.

I’m torn, have you decided yet whether you’ll have a smug smile or will attempt a sympathetic one as they chomp down?

The irony is that politicians get free stuff all the time. Campaign donations, gifts from people seeking to curry favour, lots of free meals etc.

Oh, I can’t afford to buy food but if I get back to work that will solve all my problems. omg why didn’t I think of that?

God, these people have the worst superiority complex. I think they actually think that people choose to be on food stamps because it’s just awesome to get free stuff.

It won’t matter. Literally, it won’t matter. Whatever bullshit Republicans sell, they will buy it hook line and sinker. There was a Washington Post story about Kentucky voters who voted in Matt Bevins, who ran on a campaign of ending the state’s Obamacare program. That was a key part of his campaign. Meanwhile,

As someone who is eligible for forgiveness in 2 weeks I’m just trying to beat the clock.

There’s a debate that needs to happen about the appropriate level of social welfare. That debate can’t happen because one of the major parties insists that level is “zero” and characterizes people who rely on the social safety net as lazy entitled drains on society (I’ve dealt with those folks on occasion, this
