In the image of Flanigan (captured by cameraman Adam Ward as he was being shot), he really did look like a White man, but as we all know now he’s light skinned African American. And Flanagan used a screen name when he was anchoring at WDBJ7, “Bryce Williams” so at the time I’m guessing no one made the connection.

Vester L. Flanagan is his name. As a reporter at WDBJ7, he went by Bryce Williams.

Well, that was totally unnecessary. I’m local to the area, a fan of the team at WDBJ7, and I’m African American. This is a tragedy. Any senseless loss of life is a tragedy.
