Have you considered getting a Battery Tender? I picked up a Battery Tender Junior about 5 years ago and it’s worth it for the amount of trouble it saves.

It’s all about knowing what you want. If you want performance, you probably won’t be happy with an old car. It’s an easy trap to fall into since it’s not as obvious, but it’s similar to how you wouldn’t buy a Wrangler to go drag racing or a Corvette to go offroading.

I’m not sure how common this is, but every Costco I’ve been to uses pumps with an extendable hose.
