There was a good book written on the subject of housing / city planning a while back called The Geography of Nowhere. It’s not directly related to the price of housing in problem areas like San Fran, but it is still very pertinent to the question of urban vs. suburban vs. rural community planning. I’d like to see a

Last time I checked the moon’s landscape, climate, and local job market were all rather undesirable compared to major metropolitan areas on Earth.

Why stop at the Midwest? If you’re willing to compromise on climate, landscape, and salary in the interest of cheaper housing, just move to El Salvador. At least you’re close to the beach there.

Either that, or don’t call it a sport. Lump it in with chess and spelling bees where the contestants expect silence for their ‘concentration’.

I think we may be violently in agreement and I was making assumptions from reading only your posts in our thread vs. your comments on the thread in general. My bad. It seems we share the same sentiments regarding use of the N-word and the ramifications of it being exported worldwide. Our only difference is that you’re

I live in another country now (one without guns) and it’s interesting to see how punching - including sucker punching - are so much more common than they were in the States. In the U.S. you can’t really afford to just punch someone, because you might get shot.

I read the posts you’ve made to me. I’ll quote you — “no one should use the word”. There you go.

That’s pretty crazy, but I can sort of understand the ‘punching someone isn’t a crime’ mentality being present in some cultures.

I still hate self-proclaimed ‘influencers’ but find myself growing increasingly fond of White Moose Cafe.

Where are you from? Suckerpunchland? Do they draw the line at punching? or can you swing a baseball bat at people without fear of criminal liability as well?

As long as pop stars and celebrities are casually using the word in a non-negative context, problem not solved. People from other cultures will emulate that usage.

Ah, niksen.

The person who was the subject of this article clearly did not know better. They used it innocently, because music stars they liked used it and they were emulating that star. There was zero racism involved.

What’s more more transgressive -

“A fool and his money are soon parted”

They were hard to watch. Honestly, they were hard to watch in The Force Awakens as well. Even Harrison Ford’s performance seemed a tiny bit... dialed-in? Fisher’s more so, but then add to that her distorted speech. Mark Hamill’s performance in TLJ was the least cringe-y. He did a great job, but it was Luke’s character

“fuck the prequels” - most people

Responded to the wrong person... my bad

If you think the burden is on foreigners to educate themselves about American-specific cultural epithets and sensitivities, you’re being a hypocrite if you don’t do your due diligence and educate yourself on all the foreign equivalents.

If you’re going by context clues then the word can be used interchangeably with ‘girl’ or ‘brother’ or ‘baby’. Pop stars use it to refer to others, to themselves, to all people in general, etc. Yeah there are racist connotations to it for a native English-speaking American, but the term has been exported worldwide in
