I loved the game play. It was unique, still had a TON of secrets, some stupid simple, some incredibly difficult, and had plenty of fun mini-games: the Hyper Funk Zone, ShAka Boom Clap, and the acrobatic contests.

Other new-ish games either make you lose everything when you die, or have a Hardcore mode with the same stipulation.
