That guy Todd really knows his stuff. :)

you also dont need all of that offroad armor if all youre doing is driving to a camp site or even going down fire roads.
Yup - this is around the right choice. I’m torn between an LS swapped Scout (long 2 door), new Bronco, new Tacoma, Defender or Land Cruiser.
I’m with you on this one. I currently own an 80 series and a 997S but have contemplated going with just a 200. I love the capability of the 80 but having two small children, it’s not ideal for trips. As for the 997, I love it but I don’t need it and I find having my family out exploring nature significantly more…
Its good and bad. I love the outdoors and I respect it. After social media and selfies blew up I noticed certain places getting crowded and trashed. People will hike up to get their selfies, stuff all their trash in some crevice and walk off trail to get back to their car faster.
One upside of Covid is that more and more people are going out in nature. However, if you’re the type that doesn’t want to see people when you’re out you have to go further afield. In the last couple of months every basic hiking trailhead that I’ve been to has been pretty packed (which I think is great!). Having a…
I have the same feelings about this. The older I get, the more I prefer to have an off roader to explore nature than just having a fast sports car where there are only a few places where I can test the vehicle in a legal matter. I prefer nature anyway since there are less people out there.
I fell in love with Saab when I was little, my uncle had a 2002 9-5 (yeah, my Saab love started post GM takeover, sorry!), and when I was in the back seat, he would ask if I was ready for the speed booster (aka the sport button on the shifter). He hit it, floored it, and each time it felt like we jumped into warp…
I’ve been a Ford guy for a while (05 focus, 12 Mustang GT, 12 F-150), but my wife is sick and likely will never drive again. I’ve been debating selling my truck and her outlander sport to go to one car, a 4runner.
Saab. Explaining why would take too long, and I’m in the greys on Jalopnik, so no one will see this anyway. But yeah, poor, amazing, wonderful Saab.
I’m “buy cheap first, buy expensive second.”
Things change, but there is still a good crew of writers here. I like Brad’s takes on motorcycles, Blackstock is seemingly the only one who writes about any racing, Raph is weird and writes about bicycles sometimes, Erin gives a good Michigan POV, and Tom’s car buying advice is a good read. Jalopnik isn’t the same as…
Now Torch and David are the last of the real ones...
You are one of the best parts of Jalopnik. I look forward to reading wherever you end up. I’m glad (for personal reasons obviously) that your last article was about a beautiful solid axle Toyota.
Thats kind my feeling on XO generally. Lots of money in bolt ons to do trips you could do comfortably in a stock 15 year old tacoma.
And at the end no one buys the damn vehicle. I liked what Ford did with the last GT where no one was expecting it.
The Bronco might take the cake here for slow-rolling a release. Ford didn’t even announce the new Bronco until 2017, and I remember people salivating over a new one since, well, they canceled the last one in the 90s.
I think the fear is “rushing out” products. But again there is a fine line as you say. COVID and an unstable government aside, just release the damn thing.
Good. Car companies need to stop doing the stupid Supra slow roll out. Creating buzz and building up unreasonable expectations are fine lines and most fall on the latter.
