The difference is that Italy have a hundred years of quality to remind supporters that everything is going to be fine. We’ve still got a (mostly deserved) inferiority complex as a soccer nation, because we’ve seen the regression before from squads that look capable of scaring the big powers to squads that barely

I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t make the team, but I certainly don’t want to see him there. I’ll also take Old Man Howard over anyone else in the pipeline at this point, and would be satisfied with Howard/Hamid and maybe Yarbrough as the third for next year. The bias in me would like to see Tim Melia be the third, but

I’m echoing the pundits too much here, but that team last night was really suffering from a lack of leadership. They certainly weren’t getting it from the goalmouth, and I just had to doublecheck to see who even wore the armband last night - oh, look, same person.

Mock me all you like, but I pay for MLS Direct Kick on DirecTV largely because I’m out of market for my team and it’s worth it for that, with other games being a bonus. I probably watch part or all of three to four MLS games a week thanks partially to that package supplementing the generally-weak broadcast offerings.

As

I’ll give you that TFC and CF97 are better than anyone in the West, by a good margin right now, and I say that as a fan of the team currently leading the West. I’m not going to extend that to NYC, Orlando, or anyone else currently downstream, though.

This post made me check their schedule, because my initial reply was going to be “they’ve been underwhelming this year, so it probably doesn’t matter.” And then I discovered that they’re somehow in fourth in the East, and they will probably take seven points from their next four games with or without Larin.

I don’t think it was ever proven, but I saw blood drawn from a player in my indoor rec league in high school, and the story we got later was that another player had a sliver of razor blade in the heel of his shoe. This was in the 90s in Illinois.

With you too. My daughter is starting a public school in the fall (in the United States!) that requires uniforms, and I think it’s fantastic for the kids and parents alike. I like that I’ll be able to spend less time preparing her in the morning. I also like the lessening of peer pressure it will put on her and her

I emailed Frank Deford after an NPR commentary on NCAA MBB Cinderellas, ten years ago. I disagreed with his position, though I can’t remember exactly why now - what I do remember is being honored at getting a reply (from his AOL email address!) that disagreed with me, made a joke about letting a computer pick the

I was in attendance for this speech; I’d also like to point out that she also told all of us there to stop letting old, rich white guys make healthcare decisions for all of us.

It was, all in all, the most interesting commencement I’ve ever been to.

I had a video camera and some pretty expensive sunglasses disappear either in Casablanca (my point of origin) or Lisbon (my overnight transfer) from my checked luggage on my trip home about a year ago. I could live without those things. If my laptop were to go missing from checked luggage, I’d be utterly distraught.

When I lived in KC, most of the trips I took regularly were driving distance. And thank God for that, because that airport is just pointless. Location is terrible, parking is terrible, security is terrible, flight selection a joke (at least when I last flew from there, 2013 or so).

When my wife and I first flew into

Huh, I had no idea. I always sat on the east side of the stadium, but for most of my first season of going I was in the corner near the South Stand and never heard it. Thanks for setting me straight. :)

And this was in the South Stand, it looks like. Given that, definitely not more than a few fans at most, in my experience.

I never even got that kind of reaction from a ‘keeper during my few times in the Roadron, but we were also relatively kind in that situation.

Just another thing where MLS trails behind Liga MX. SMDH.

No, UIUC ‘01 here. I was just lucky enough to come from below Chambana. :)

And thank God for that, there are already too many suburban-Chicago d-bags graduating from UIUC.

Not me. I was a southern Illinois d-bag.

Ask me this same question in about... five hours from this post.

Sites, jokes, or both? I am going with both.
