That’s assuming the trucking industry is a higher paying field than those the women entering it would be leaving, and that the field of work is the biggest reason for the wage gap.

It was belittling cashiers
My, aren’t we snobbish?
So, people shouldn’t want to do a socially necessary job, that can often be quite well paying?
Better to get a college degree and have the high social status...and $100,000 in debt...working a low paying clerical job instead?
I’m probably not going to argue with you about this. Long-distance stuff is not more/less ethical than local stuff, likewise big companies vs small, etc. The issue is if the workers have good benefits and pay and working conditions and that is often determined by how well they are organized (or allowed to), and having…
I make 6 figures annually being a trucker. Whats the problem here?
Look I think that all sucks, and I wish it were better, and I don’t at all mean to belittle your complaints.
I bet you say that to the plumber you frantically call after a pipe burst while your home is about to get flooded. If all these ‘little people’ would just deny you service, you’d have a hard time surviving.
The point of the pay gap’s existence (and the protest against it) is that women make less in both fields. If I decided to be a k-12 teacher, which is a field primarily seen as female, I’d still make less than my male cohorts, regardless of experience or education. Similarly, in my own skilled, male-dominated, manual…
Once you get past the training, perhaps. But you may have to deal with grabby, harassing trainers, companies that won’t do anything about harassment, and once you get past training you’ve got destinations that don’t have restrooms for you, truck stops that don’t think you’re a trucker because you’re a woman, and…
So it’s Ok for Dads not to see their kids?
Because it’s only a matter of time before some news article comes along and quotes “according to the Freight Transport Association, 79% of women...” Now there is a new “fact” in existence that will be repeated endlessly with no idea of its origins as a pile of garbage.
Thirteen years ago, I was eligible for job training because my last job succumbed to the slump that followed 9/11. I chose truck driving school, got hired, and drove a big rig for a bit over a year. Sexism? Oh, yeah. My favorite moments include a truck stop manager in Connecticut who grabbed my arm and threatened me…
Not all truck drivers are over-the-road, and why wouldn’t this apply to dads as much as moms?
I don’t necessarily agree that she’s upset, but let’s just say she is for this experiment. If you had to just take a GUESS as to why she’s upset, or maybe annoyed is a better word, what would you say? Like, just take a stab in the dark based on what you know (even if it’s not much) about being a woman in a male…
I'd bet most of the current crop of truck driving school attendees will be retired before federal DOT officials allow rigs without a person there to keep an eye on things becomes the norm. If nothing else it may take awhile for the cost of pure autonomous trucks is low enough to make it an option for the bean counters.
How does it work with picking up and murdering hookers? Are there male hookers roaming the truck stops at night? Do they also get murdered?
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure what you’re so bent out of shape about. The poll was unquestionably unscientific, but so what? It’s not intended to be a peer reviewed study. It isn’t indicating anything bad about women, just likely inaccurately representing women’s interest in truck driving, but in a direction that might…
