Which really just means that senior management is the half to fire.

Nah there’s no youtubing. Oh they have real fucking meetings. Talk about important sounding shit. But it’s all about actually enjoying the sound of their own voices so filling the whole hour is pretty easy. But they will complain about having to attend these 30+ hrs of meetings.

I will never ever ever work for a publicly traded company again.

Nice to see a study for what any low level employee could see. Of course nowadays there is a whole lot of managers that never actually went through the rank and file but started and middle management and rose from their.

Here’s an idea...don’t click on the clickbait.

I’ve experienced the opposite: Was too good at my job, got promoted to a manager and was told to stop doing the thing I was good at and become a baby sitter for people who sucked at the thing I had been very good at. I hated it, but stuck around because $$$$$$.

That’s the downside of public companies, they have different customers. A private company creates value by offering a service or product to a customer who gives them money. A public company creates value by offering value to investors who give them money.

And answering stupid questions all day and learning to say in a nice, HR-friendly way, “Stop being a stupid lazy fuck.”

Um. Wave your hand. I think we work together.

You should maybe move to an illegal publishing company. I hear they have cookies.

My favourite manager ever did nothing all day but look at jokes on the internet and forward them to everyone he knew.

god damn it, this just makes me want to be a manager. But i really don’t want to tuck in my shirt.

This. All of this. All my manager does is go to meetings, probably 30 hours a week, but what they can talk about for all that time is something I haven’t been able to figure out. I assume they just watch YouTube videos and make fun of all of us jabronis for falling into this scam.

Countepoint: Middle managers exist to apologize for your shit when you do your job to the specs you were given, not to the specs as they existed in senior management’s mind.

Managing people is fucking awful. I’d do 20x more paperwork if it meant I didn’t have to deal with human resource training, and basically being a high school principal.

You mean “let me tell you what I want you to do and how to do it” when “I should have just done it myself in half the time it’s taken me to explain it to you.” is really the better option.

Social structures like middle management exist for the very purpose of keeping these people locked up somewhere.

i refresh deadspin at least 10 times in between posts just to see if there are new ones. i have nothing better to do whilst “working”

I’m going to have to get used to HamNo on Deadspin. I thought this was going to be an article advocating firing half of MLB’s managers. (Which would be great.)

“ internal compliance activity...of questionable value.”
