Something about this thread really screams “FOREVER ALONE” to me.

kids would still be alive, tho

The number of people on FB that are so upset that news outlets are reporting this shooting is astounding to me. (Seriously, yesterday someone on NPR’s FB post said this was a private family matter. she fucking shot her daughter in the middle of the damn street. and refused to put her gun down so the police had to stop

Yep, I grew up in Oklahoma and lived in Dallas for 5 years. I would bet good money that the reason she had that gun is because, “you can’t get rid of a family heirloom.” There are so many southerners who don’t think it’s right to put an “heirloom” in a safe at another location, away from nutjobs, burglars and

She won’t ever get help. One of the worst things about somebody with BPD is that (the overwhelming majority of them) refuse to accept there’s anything wrong with them. Total victim complex, and toxic almost beyond comprehension. We continue to try to think of ways to get my dad away from her so he can live his

The current laws ban selling guns to people who are criminals/drug addicts/have psychiatric histories, but, as far as I know, it’s only illegal to be in possession of a gun in TX if you’re a felon/drug addict, meaning that the cops couldn’t take away the guns or charge her with anything for having them.

Because Texas America.

From the link in this article about the daughter’s wedding:

Reports are that the police had been called to the house multiple times for either DV or suicide attempts- sounds like legislation getting guns out of the hands people with both of those issues would be a sterling idea.

14 times since 2012.

yeah, i am pretty skeptical of police in general, but this particular officer in this situation—i feel bad for him, especially because he’s struggling with it. what an awful thing to see, what an awful thing to have to do.

This why a cultural shift regarding guns is just as necessary as gun control legislation. The government probably shouldn’t keep a list of everyone with a history of depression. That doesn’t mean people should shrug their shoulders when obviously mentally unstable family members have guns. Get rid of them!

The police hat been dispatched to this home three times for suicide attempts. And they keep the guns?

Well we could repeal the federal ban on gun violence research for starters. Perhaps with some numbers and a public advocacy campaign, similar to the successful ones we’ve employed for smoking, seat belts, etc., we could do something to curb the myth that guns in the home make people safer. As a society, if we can’t

Yeah, the lights are on, but nobody’s home.

“I always knew something would happen, but I never thought she would do this. Christy was toxic for the family. She was mentally unstable,” she added.

yeah, whenever says that argument of “well we need good guys with guns” i say yeah, fucker they’re called Police, and they are trained to override our basic human need for survival (flee, freeze, or fight).

Those doll’s eyes freak me the fuck out.

Stupid and senseless and preventable.

So in the end, the bad person with a gun was stopped by a good person with a gun...who is a trained law-enforcement professional whose actions are subject to scrutiny as standard procedure as opposed to some doofus with 400 bucks and tickets to a gun show.
