Mazda never brought the Skyactiv-D over here because they never figured out how to make it meet emissions requirements. They got really close, but never quite made it. In fact, I read an article where an interviewed engineer wondered out loud how VW managed to do it. Funny thing about that...

Building my own racing circuit is definitely the ultimate dream of my life. That, and starting a car museum, with its own restoration shop, because I want the excuse to have hundreds of cars.

I never really listened to NPR on the radio much

You have a lot more faith in the voting population than I do.

A 12 oz can of soda has about 2.2 grams of CO2. Every hour you exhale about 50 grams of CO2 when healthy, and is capable of ramping that up a lot higher. That doesn’t include removal of acid by your kidneys. You would have to drink a lot of carbonated water to get acidotic from it. I suspect you would get sick of

While I’m an accountant and live off of amortization schedules, I’ve gone car shopping with friends who aren’t numbers people and I will tell you that they are oblivious to accumulated interest. All they care about is the lowest monthly payment regardless of overall interest paid on the loan. I’ve even had salesmen

A decent salesman would run those numbers and show you that you would be better off with the shorter term.

$28,155...$410/month

I’d argue your model of not overextending yourself for consumables like a car is the right way to go. The fact you could take such a huge pay-cut and still do all right suggests you’ve made good decisions with your life.   Most people are so over-extended, they have no choice but to live miserably so they can service

CVT will sap extra 30hp from oh-so-sporty 9.0sec 0-to-60 crosstrek.

It’s close, but the smokestack needs to stick up vertically in the bed, right behind the cab.

Look, we don’t go to Fox Sports and complain about conservatives talking about football.  If you don’t like the lefty car blog writing about racism in Nascar, then fuck off, because you’re on the wrong site.

Be honest, you’re not mad that there’s “politics” on Jalopnik, you’re mad because there’s politics you don’t agree with on Jalopnik.

I’ve been biking for years and have gotten by just fine with the occasional “on your left!” but last month I finally broke down and bought a bell. Waaaaaay more people on my trails now than before and a surprisingly high number of them have no idea what “on your left!” means.

Yes, we’re bored of pandemicking. “They” won’t let us get drunk indoors, gotta get out.

San Diego transplant (15 years ago) here. The trails have always seemed busy out here to me, but I grew up at the foot of the Blue Ridge in VA. Things are definitely busier in the mountains right now.  I just hope that this rediscovery of nature comes with respect, and without loads of trash being left behind.

its nuts right now.  Hikes in utah are crazy busy, campsites are all full, even the backcountry is starting to get crowded.

The new models also come as pandemic-weary Americans look for safe ways to get outdoors, Grueber added.
