They’re now claiming they can finally start using NFTs for their intended purpose, which is...something something contract or signature authentication or something something I dunno. It’s alluded to in this article. There is apparently some magical valuable “use” for NFTs beyond just overcharging people for a

Whenever an article critical of NFTs was posted back in the day people would come out of the woodwork defending how valuable and revolutionary they would be and how you just “didn’t get it”. Where are those people now?

A good and expected result.  Now can we never talk about them again?

Yes, he is evil. His job is evil. It doesn’t make him unique. “Like you get he works [as a senior executive] for a big corporation that wants to maximize profits” exactly!! That’s what makes him evil!!

“Spencer then added that being elected God-Emperor of Earth would be yet another ‘career moment’, as would a successful military conquest of the moon by an army of trained hamsters”

I would hate for them to buy Nintendo. First of all, "their success lies off their hardware" means they would kill the Switch and move things onto Xbox. Second of all, no I can't argue this anymore it's just too awful to consider

Holy shit, just when I thought I couldn’t dislike Phil Spencer any more.

Dude’s idea of success is ‘buy all the competition’ rather than, you know, actually investing in his own developers to make better games.  Sure buddy, try to buy the company that has consistently trounced the shit out of you in console sales

Yeah, I don’t think people realize how much of what makes Steam cool today is because of its leadership. I hope whoever follows Gabe and his crew keep the same vibe with the platform.

The ideal, pro-consumer solution is for all content to be available across a variety of streaming services instead of being exclusive and make the services compete by offering the best service, but that’ll never happen.

I predict a classic tactic used in business, politics and negotiations. You want $50 but your target will be incensed, angry that you’re asking for it. So instead you ask for $500, you incur a little wrath then say “Ok, how about $50?”. Your target says “Whew, ok $50 isn’t so bad” when in truth, the $50 would’ve been

If you live near forests, chances are there’s a decent nature non-profit or local/state mushroom society that leads field trips in spring and fall for learning common edible mushrooms. Spending an afternoon with an expert in person is a huge supplement to a reputable book (which you should also have).

But the Mycologists will NOT be eating them.

Yup this, mushrooms are one thing you just don’t mess around with.  There are a lot that will make you sick, or dead, and some look pretty similar to one’s that are perfectly fine to eat.

I’d been ready to make some sort of joke about “benefits of poor decision making playing out in real time”.

I know several people in this boat, and they’re all making me question why dating sims aren’t simply mainstream releases. People don’t need to wait for enormously expensive, once-in-a-generation games if what they really want are the romance options (and not the gigantic tactical RPG they’re attached to). That

I am not a big fan of the side plot romances, but it could be a side effect of my strange personality. I can’t stand peas touching mashed potatoes either, and this is basically the same thing! :)

Functional Water” is bullshit and reminds me of a joke that probably predates Penn Jillette, but he’s the one I heard tell it.

The sugar one is the thing I always point out when places have vegan recipes, it’s not something that comes to mind. Similar to how, before vegetarian parm was more readily available, places would label dishes with tons of parm on it as vegetarian.

Dune is absolutely sold as a series, the paperbacks I have came as a box set.  I always tell people the story doesn’t really pick up until God Emperor.

Dune was a weird experience because it seemed like it should have all the ingredients for me to love it but I found it insanely boring. I’ve tried re-watching it at home twice and I fell asleep both times.

Hilarious side story: When I originally saw it in theatres, it was in an area with several high schools so
