Recipes are hacks when they get you results by doing something novel and likely easier than the traditional method.

Saying it doesn’t have the shelf life of store bought mayo is REALLY underselling it. Store bought mayo can last months in the fridge after opening...every time I’ve made mayo, in less than a week the oils start to go a little rancid. It’s not technically “gone bad” in that it would potentially make me sick, but it

That’s cool and all except for when you’re an incredibly high volume restaurant that doesn’t feel the need to write aioli on every menu item and just wants to get through the day without having to stop prep work or pull cooks off the line just to make 5 gallon batches of mayo when someone inevitably forgets to check

This too shall pass.

I really do feel for the restaurant owners on this one, presuming things are as presented.

Pandora still exists?

I think marketing the plant-based substitutes as substitutes of a specific meat product helps people understand how to use that plant-based product.

I’m so glad we have The Takeout. Without it, I would never know what’s happening on TikTok.

I feel like there are two kinds of people in the world.  People who don’t need to be told this, and people who won’t believe you.

Are they convenient? Sometimes, if you don’t buy booze or the rare times a self-checkout lane doesn’t decide it needs a human to check out my groceries.

If the technology doesn’t work for the human who is using it, it is a technology problem, not the customer problem.  This isn’t rocket science.  It shouldn’t need ANY technologic know how to use it effectively.

That’s the theory, but in practice the stores often only have one or two cashiers working, even at peak time, so they are encouraging self checkout for pretty much everybody. Most of the stores we go to don’t have signs limiting the amount of items. I think one has a sign that says “15-ish or less,” which does make

You can bag your own groceries in a regular checkout aisle too.

Self checkout sucks because I spend a ton of time waiting for the attendant to come over and clear the device after it incorrectly thinks I placed something in the bag without scanning, removed something from the bag, or scanned something and didn’t put it in the bag. Or if I grabbed a bottle of vermouth or a six pack

Idk, maybe because it’s expensive?

Oh my god, this. I see way more bad restaurant behavior from old people than young people. By far. And I’ve never understood people who grouse about other people taking pictures of their food. I’ve never once noticed let alone been disrupted in my meal by someone else at another table snapping a picture. You know what

right, this is another whole article in which the title can be answered in 1 sentence: Because they are broke.

Looking around at all the boomers, I am not so sure Gen Z are the ones that don’t know how to behave properly in public.

Maybe because they are paying far more, as a percentage of their income, for rent/mortgage, utilities, and student loans than prior generations?

Yeah you could do that but bring a towel so you can dry them and not get the cake wet.
