It is amusing that the band’s breakout stars went on to fame in the hard rock and metal genres, after being packaged and marketed as sneering punk brats.  Guess they knew where the money was.

I haven’t read that. I’m going to have to pick that one up.

I thought The Runaways was the most boring cliché trope riding rock biopic I’ve seen. And I usually dig rock biopics even as they hit all the expected beats. Though I’m a big fan of What We Do Is Secret, so I’m not sure what that says about me.

No mention of Angela Bassett as Tina Turner and What’s Love Got to Do With It? Personally I think that’s the gold standard of music biopic performances. I will go to my grave maintaining she should’ve won the Oscar over Holly Hunter.

Crisis in the Red Zone by Richard Preston. I got the book about 3 years ago but lent it out to my dad since I had gotten another book at the time, and I just got around to getting it back some time this past May.

Wile I imagine “Corporate Rock Sucks” could be an entertaining read, there’s a review of the book over at The New Republic that neatly encapsulates the entire saga:

really some great actresses(I’ll admit, Mitchell didn’t earn those chops till after the show th0), they seemed to know how to teeter on the edge of the drama/ridiculous of it all.

A few friends had a similar conversation with me not too long ago. I went to rehab and everything, and have been sober since. It really is crazy how much your life improves if you just let it. About to hit my 6 months sobriety date, which I know isn’t that long, but for me it’s a lifetime.

Little shop of horrors, bowfinger and death at a funeral are all pretty subversive.

Just enjoying seeing the movies from that year getting brought up. I don’t understand why the Oscars can’t just be superficial and fun. Even if they try to have it both ways, no one has to take it seriously. I do think they usually do well with the screenplay awards. It seems like they recognize what might be below…

I’ve had Bell’s Palsy three times. Only one was serious, but I can tell you, having half your face frozen for an extended period is scary as hell.
